Apple is said to be working on a 2nd-generation OLED iPad

Apple OLED rumors never die. Digitimes reports that Apple has started developing the 2nd-generation iPad, and they'll use an OLED panel. They want to launch it in 2011. Digitimes are skeptic though, because OLED Panel prices will still be too high.

They estimate that the iPad's 9.7" LCD costs around $60-70. A similar OLED will cost about $500. That gap isn't likely to drop significantly by 2011.

Panels for displays.

It is not a secret that Apple signed a deal with LG in the latter part of 2009, whether $50 million or $500 million, I don't recall , but it was some huge denomination with a "5" at beginning and lots of zeros behind it!

Possibly this is the ramp up for a fundamental multi-layered "Apple Display Revolution," with the LCD displays on macs, ipads, ipods, Iphones, etc. all being refitted with AMOLED displays! If this is indeed the plan, too bad it wasn't made with Samsung as Samsung has advanced to "Super Amoleds" with the touch surfaces being the resister or capacitor vapoured on instead of a Wacom type of layer applied to the glass of the display, so that the device can be slimmer, lighter, brighter, power saving, and viewable in regular outdoor lighting.
