Sources in Korea suggest that BOE struggles with supplying AMOLED panels to Apple's iPhone, and Apple may switch some of its orders to LG Display and Samsung Display.
BOE is supplying LTPS AMOLED displays to Apple's iPhone 14, 15 and 16 devices, but the company faces quality issues and Apple has rejected many of its displays. It is estimated that it will take at least 6 weeks for BOE to fix the OLED quality problems, and meanwhile since the beginning of 2024 it managed to ship only about 7-8 million panels to Apple - from orders of around 40 million units.
It is estimated that most of the orders, if Apple cancels the BOE orders, will go to Samsung Display, as LG display is focused on the production of LTPO AMOLEDs used in the iPhone Pro series.
BOE has a long history of aiming to supply OLED displays to Apple, coupled with continuous quality issues. These new reports from Korea haven't been verified yet.
In the meantime it is known that BOE and LG Display has been chosen as OLED suppliers for the upcoming iPhone SE 4 smartphone. The entry-level device will sport a 6.1" AMOLED and it was suggested that Apple's target price for this display is $25 - which was too low for Samsung Display that decided not to continue with its discussions with Apple for the supply of these panels. It will be interesting to see whether these new quality issues also effect the supply of panels to the iphone SE 4.
