BOE Display announced that it signed an agreement with a Hefei municipal government to co-invest 1 billion CNY (around $145 million USD) in a new OLED TV production line in Hefei. BOE will invest 80% of the funds, and the rest will be provided by the Hefei government.
BOE already has a 8.5-Gen pilot line in Hefei, which is actually producing commercial OLED TV panels, albeit in very small volumes. It 2014 it was reported that BOE plans a $1 billion OLED TV line in Hefei.
In addition to BOE's OLED TV lines, the company is also developing and producing small sized rigid and flexible OLEDs. BOE has a 4.5-Gen pilot line in Chengdu that is already producing AMOLED displays, and the company is also on track to begin production in a new $3 billion Gen-6 line in Chengdu in the 2nd half of 2017.
In October 2016 BOE also announce a third OLED fab, in Mianyang. This will be another 6-Gen AMOLED fab, but it will produce flexible OLEDs on plastic substrates. According to BOE's plans, this $6.87 billion fab will produce 45,000 sheets per month and will enter production in 2019.
In May 2016 BOE Display demonstrated several new AMOLED prototypes - including a 4.35" bendable and foldable OLED displays. The bendable panels offer a resolution of 1120x480 (HWVGA, 280 PPI) and a bending radius of 15 mm. The brightness is 350 nits. The color gamut is 100% NTSC. The foldable panels are the same - except the bending radius is much smaller at 5 mm.
