DisplaySearch: 3 Million OLED TV Panel Shipments in 2011, forecasts 700$ price for Sony's 11" OLED TV


DisplaySearch of the United States forecast shipments of organic EL TV panels would reach around 3 million units in 2011 at the 13th DisplaySearch Japan Forum July 24, 2007. 

The company assumed entry to the market from a number of manufacturers including Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. of Korea in 2008 and Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co. Ltd. (TMD) in 2009, following Sony Corp. launching an organic EL TV onto the market in late 2007.

Display search releases the Small/Medium TFT LCD and AMOLED Product Plan Report

This report provides three unique viewpoints into the active matrix small/medium display industry:

  • 24 suppliers are profiled by their display products and technology (LCD and OLED).

DisplaySearch - OLED Displays Break Out of Slump; Units Up 71% and Revenues Up 56% Y/Y


DisplaySearch revealed in its latest Quarterly OLED Shipment and Forecast Report that Q1'07 OLED shipments were 19.1M, up 71%Y/Y and revenues were $121M, up 56% Y/Y. Shipments and revenue were down Q/Q, 14% and 13%, respectively, due to seasonality. OLED displays compete with LCDs in small/medium applications such as mobile phone main displays and sub-displays, MP3s, and automotive consoles.



Active matrix OLEDs displays continued volume shipments with Samsung SDI, Kodak, Sony and eMagin shipping 335K displays in Q1'07.  By Q2'07, the volume is expected to grow to 685K displays. Applications include MP3s, mobile phones and near eye.




Overall, RiTdisplay led in units, with 5.1M closely followed by Pioneer, also at 5.1M, Samsung SDI at 3.7M, LGE at 3.1M and TDK at 1.5M.  Univision, which had shut down due to financial problems has restarted production and shipped 900K units in Q1'07 and is expected to grow volume to 1.5M units next quarter, recovering to a leadership position.



Sub-displays and MP3 player displays combined to account for about 87% of shipments at 12.6M and 4.0M, respectively. Of the remaining applications, main displays and industrial applications showed strong growth, but volume remained low.



Sub-display volume is very strong in Japan and is the major cause of the growth in the category. Main display growth is primarily due to the Kyocera cell phone which uses the Samsung SDI 2.4" QVGA AMOLED panel.

Sony have began production of AMOLEDs in Q1/07


In its latest Quarterly OLED Shipment and Forecast Report, DisplaySearch also disclosed the following -

  • Samsung SDI and Sony began production of AMOLEDs in Q1'07.
  • Teco (Taiwan), which is moving their fab from Taiwan to China, continued to use its Taiwan fab, shipping MP3 displays to iRiver.
  • Univision was reported to be in financial difficulties, and while they were able to ship >3M displays in Q4'06, the volume is forecast to fall below 600K in Q1'07.
  • Revenues are forecast to grow to over $142.5M in Q1'07, due in large part to the introduction of AMOLEDs for mobile phone main displays by Samsung SDI.

DisplaySearch Announces 2006 OLED Display Shipments Up 29% but Revenues Down 3%

DisplaySearch revealed in its latest Quarterly OLED Shipment and Forecast Report that 2006 OLED shipments were 72.1M, up 29%, and revenues were $475M, down 3%, as the ASP dropped 24% Y/Y. OLED displays compete with LCDs in small/medium applications such as mobile phone main displays and sub-displays, MP3s, and automotive consoles. The top six suppliers had a market share of 92.4% as the industry continued to consolidate.


In Q4'06, OLED shipments were 22.2M and revenues hit $145.3M. OLED shipments decreased 2% Q/Q due to an 11% decrease in main displays and a 12% drop in MP3 players. PMOLEDs continue to dominate the market with a revenue share of over 93%. There are now 13 small molecule and 2 P-OLED producers with small molecule having a 99% revenue share.


In Q4'06, RiTdisplay regained the #1 position in both units and revenue with 5.4M displays and $26.5M in revenue. Pioneer was #5 in shipments and #2 in revenue, while Samsung SDI was #2 in shipments and #3 in revenue for the quarter. LGE was #3 in shipments and #4 in revenue, and Univision was #4 in units and #5 in revenue,

Display makers: 2007 AMOLED report


The AMOLED market is forecast to finally launch this year:



Samsung SDI will begin to make AMOLED displays in the first half of 2007 - from 2.0" to 2.6", QVGA level AMOLEDs. Other companies that plan to start making these panels in 2007 include LG.Philips, Toppoly, CMEL, Sony and TMD.



The U.S.-based market research firm DisplaySearch projects the production of AM OLEDs will literally soar from last year's 2.39 million units to 24.84 million this year, 95.88 million in 2008, and 200 million in 2010.

DisplaySearch Reports Q3'06 Small/Medium Display Shipments


DisplaySearch has released its Quarterly Small/Medium Shipment and Forecast Report, a comprehensive examination of the small/medium display industry.



AMLCDs dominate shipment share by technology with a-Si at 50.0% and p-Si at 29.7%. STN had a total share of 16.4%, which has been falling over the last two years. HTPS and LCOS are competing in electronic viewfinder market, where results were mixed. OLED displays are still in their infancy with PMOLEDs having a 2.1% share and growing, while AMOLED are not expected to ship in volume until Q1'07.

DisplaySearch Announces Strong Results for OLED Displays in Q3'06


DisplaySearch revealed in its latest report that OLED shipments grew to 21.2 million and revenues hit $132.5 million in Q3'06.



OLED shipments increased 33% Q/Q due to a 57% increase in sub-displays and a 46% growth in mobile phone main displays. PMOLEDs continue to dominate the market with a revenue share of over 98%. There are now thirteen small molecule and two P-OLED producers with small molecule having a 99% revenue share. Samsung SDI regained the #1 position in units and revenue in Q3'06 with 5.1M displays and $32.6M in revenue. LGE was #2 in revenue and #3 in shipments, while RiTdisplay was #3 in revenue and #2 in shipments. Pioneer was #4 and Univision was #5 in units and revenue.

DisplaySearch Reports Q2'06 Small/Medium Shipments. OLEDs have a 3.5% market share


AMLCDs dominate shipment share by technology with a-Si at 35.6% and p-Si at 18.4%. STN has a strong total share of 41.3%, yet has been falling Q/Q.  HTPS and LCOS are competing in electronic viewfinder market, where results were mixed. OLED displays are still in their infancy with PMOLEDs having a 3.5% share and growing, while AMOLED display makers struggle with yields.
