According to the report, several manufacturers are planning OLED TV panels in 2009. LG will debut their 15" AMOLED TV by the end of the year. DisplaySearch estimate that it's likely (they give it 70%) that Sony will release their 27" OLED TV this year. It's a bit uncertain because of Sony's financial situation.

Samsung might (DisplaySearch gives it 40% chance) release their 14.1" OLED TV - but there's no announcement yet.

Flat-panel TV sales surge lead by low-cost vendors

DisplaySearch are reporting Flat-panel TV sales have risen 23% in the first quarter, when compared to last year. DisplaySearch say that people are looking for bargains, and low-cost vendors (such as Vizio and Funai) are leading the sales. Samsung and Sony actually saw a decline in sales.

This is probably not good news for OLEDs: people aren't looking for high-end, quality displays. At least not now. Obviously things may change in a year or two.

Sony - we're still committed to OLED TVs

There was a blog post last week at HCC that claimed that Sony are giving up on OLED TVs. According to the blog post, DisplaySearch are predicting that the main players in OLED TVs the next 5 years will be Samsung, LG, Toshiba and Panasonic. Sony is not on the list.
