Ireland-based OLED IP company Solas OLED announced that it has filed a lawsuit against Nintendo and Samsung Display in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Solas says that the Nintendo Switch OLED infringes four of Solas’ U.S. patents: 7,499,042; 7,573,068; 7,868,880; and 7,663,615 that relate to the 7-inch OLED display, produced by SDC.
Solas has already filed lawsuits against SDC for the patent infringements. In March 2021, the jury in the US district court in Texas has found Samsung Display and Samsung Electronics liable to Solas for willfully infringing two fundamental OLED patents, and Solas was awarded with $62.7 million in damages. That legal battle is still ongoing, Samsung won some challenges and its' not clear what the end result will be.
The Nintendo Switch OLED model is now shipping for $349.99.
