Samsung seeks to sell an outdated LCD fab in Cheonan, may use the space for OLED production

According to Korea's Yonhap news, Samsung Display is seeking to sell outdated LCD equipment from its Cheonan LCD fab. SDC is in talks with China's Truly to offload this equipment.

Yonhap says that SDC still haven't decided what to install in the soon-to-be-empty fab location, and the Korean maker may install a new OLED production line in this place.

In May it was reported the SDC decided to setup a new fab to produce small and medium sized OLED panels for tablets and wearable devices. SDC is expected to start building this new fab in 2014, with plans to start production in the first half of 2015 (this is the first phase).

It's likely that SDC already chose the location for this specific fab, so the new location that may become available in Cheonan will probably be used to a different OLED fab (if SDC decides indeed to use that space for OLED production).

I think the headline was supposed to read "Outdated LCD fab.."  not outdated OLED...

Yes, you are right of course, Rob. Thanks!
