Reuters reports that Samsung Display has decided to stop all LCD production by the end of 2020. The company will continue to support it current customers without any issues.
SDC has two LCD production lines in Korea. One of these will be converted to next-generation QD-OLED TV panels (in a $10.8 billion investment announced in October 2019). According to Reuters, the second line will also be converted to QD-OLED in the future. SDC did not yet decide what will it do with its two LCD production lines in China.
LG Display also recently announced it will stop producing LCD TV panels in Korea by the end of 2020.

This sounds more like Samsung feels there is no good profit in LCD panels so it’s focus will move to better margin OLED. Will this eventually reduce costs for OLED? That remains to be seen? I figure with the COVID 19 problems we will see some good deals anyway.
If it is not an 1st April joke, then the fact that both Korean display manufacturer leaders will cease LCD production by end of 2020 to allocate their resources to the production of OLED displays is a key milestone for the development of OLED displays.
I would think that in the period 2020 - 2025, we should see OLED display getting better and prices getting cheaper to finally spread even more (tablets, laptops, PC monitor, TV,...) : Really looking forward to it, finally !!!
