Samsung Display shows new OLED technologies at CES 2025

Samsung Display is set to show new OLED technologies at CES 2025, including new foldable display, rollable ones, automotive displays, next-gen QD-OLED panels and more.

So first up, Samsung will be showing a 18.1 foldable OLED display (which it says is the world's largest). This panel is suitable for IT devices - to enable devices that combine tablet, laptop and monitor devices into one. When folded, this display is 13.1" in size.

Samsung is also showing new rollable displays, there are several of those - a smartphone type display (the Slidable Flex Vertical) that extends vertically from 5.1-inch to 6.7-inch, a tablet sized one called Slidable Flex Duet that opens from 8.1-inch to 12.4-inch and slides on both directions, and the Slidable Flex Solo which opens up from 13-inch to 17.3-inches. Samsung is clearly moving forward with its rollable OLED displays, and it is estimated that the first device to use such screens could launch this year.

Samsung is also showing new automotive display technologies. For the first time, it is implementing its under-the-display camera (UPC) technology to automotive displays, to enable better driver monitoring systems. Another innovation is the Real Black HUD, which uses an OLED embedded in the flat area beyond the steering wheel where it meets the windshield to reflect driving information onto the bottom of the black-coated windshield. Samsung says that an OLED solution is thinner and weighs less than current LED-based HUDs, and also offer better image quality and a seamless integration with the black-coated windshield. Samsung is also showing the a 18.1-inch bendable OLED display suited for automotive applications, which can better suit the car's interior compared to rigid flat displays.

Finally, Samsung unveiled its latest QD-OLED panels, that reach up to 4,000 nits of brightness - about 30% brighter than SDC’s previous year models. Samsung is mainly targeting monitors, and the company is launching three panel sizes, 27-inch, 31.5-inch, 34-inch and 49-inch. Samsung also showed a 77-inch TV panel of the 4,000 nits QD-OLED.
