IEK says that the production value of OLED panels in the second quarter grew by 27.1 percent from the previous quarter to NT$1.17 billion (US$34.93 million), mostly due to strong demand from cell-phones and MP3 players. The center predicts that the third-quarter production value for OLED panels will reach NT$1.22 billion (US$36.42 million), up 4.2 percent.
Currently, the greatest part of local OLED production value comes from passive-matrix (PM) LED panels. The market is now shifting to active-matrix (AM) OLED panels, which are expected to enjoy higher growth ratios in the coming years.
