DSCC sees 9.25 million foldable OLED panels shipped in Q2 2024, with Samsung returning to a dominant position

DSCC says that foldable OLED shipments increased 46% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to last year, to reach almost 4 million units.

BOE was leading the market in Q1 2024, with a market share of 48% (up from 43% in Q1 2023). The two leading foldable smartphone models were Huawei's Mate X5 and Pocket 2, using panels supplied by BOE. In fact Huawei had a market share of 55% in the foldable smartphone market.

DSCC expects shipments to rise 113% in Q2 2024, to reach 9.25 million units (a record high), as Samsung will start producing and shipping foldable OLEDs for the next Z Flip and Z Fold panels a month earlier compared to last year. DSCC expects Samsung Electronics to become the leading foldable smartphone vendor in Q2, thanks for strong sales of its upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold.

Looking at the whole of 2024, Samsung Electronics will be the leading foldable smartphone producer, but its market share will decrease compared to 2023. Samsung Electronics is expected to hold a market share of 48%, buying around over 13 million foldable OLED panels. Huawei will be at 2nd place with a 28% market share. In turn, Samsung Display will be the leading foldable OLED producing, with a 54% market share (down from 62% in 2023), with BOE in second place with a 28% market share (up from 27% in 2023). Visionox is expected to have a 11% share, marking it as the fastest growing producer, and CSoT will hold 7% of the market.
