LG slashes $1,000 off their 55" and 65" 4K curved OLED TVs

LG's OLED TV prices keep dropping, and today the company reduced the prices of its 55" and 65" curved 4K OLED TVs by $1,000. The 65" 65EG9600 is now on sale at Amazon.com for $4,999 while the 55" 55EG9600 is shipping for $2,999.

This makes LG's current OLED pricing a bit confusing. The flat 4K OLEDs are now more expensive than the curved OLEDs - but it's likely that LG will match those prices soon. The latest 55" FHD curved model, the 55EG9100 is shipping for $2,499 - which means that you only need to add $500 to get 4K resolution.

I smell something fishy here.

Why would they cut prices like that?

LG is maybe going to shift its focus from producing its own OLED TVs to supplying OLED panels to third-party vendors, so LG may intend to quickly sale already produced TVs until they are outdated and/or competing (and more quality as a whole product compared with just OLED panels) TVs hit the market.

I think LG Electronics will continue to produce OLED TVs and LG Display will supply panels to LGE and other companies. I think the scenario you described is highly unlikely...

Of course. My point is that LG could continue producing some limited volumes of its own OLED TVs, but reckon on getting primary revenue from supplying OLED panels to third-party vendors.

Or just their yield is now getting even closer to 100%, and that's what made it possible to cut prices further.

Hopefully, we are also getting closer to OLED monitors thanks to this. :-)

Amazon have also reduced the prices of the flat EF9500 models to the similar prices as EG9600.

I would love an OLED monitor, but what about burn-in?

The task bar is will be fried into the oled in no time.

Yep, you're right and I posted here. They also lowered the price of their FHD models!

Android has permanent GUI elements on the screen too (e.g. top bar with current time, the state of charge, etc.), but there are OLED-based tablets by Samsung.

Also, there are burn-in compensation technologies, e.g. Ignis MaxLife and IP Mining ZeroBurn.

No not confuse AMOLED with the OLED TVs from LG. They are very different technologies.

I much prefer a flat screen to a curved one if there are multiple people viewing from varying angles in the room.

I got rid of a curved one for this reason.
