iRiver P20 (4.1" AMOLED) gets price , release date in Japan


iRiver released some more information about their P20 player. The display is a 4.1" AMOLED (480x272). The player includes 80GB of memory (there is also a 120GB version coming later), DMB, FM radio, voice recording and office-documents viewer.

The P20 will be released in Japan by the end of the month, and will sell for 435$.

Amazon Kindle 2.0 is out


Amazon has officially announced the Kindle 2.0 reader. The display is a 6" diagonal E-Ink electronic paper display, 600 x 800 pixel resolution at 167 ppi, 16-level gray scale.






The whole device weights just 290g (less than a normal paperback, they say), and it's extremly thin - just over 0.3-inch. More info at amazon.com, of course.

China to Fund OLED Driver R&D Projects

The governments of Hong Hong and neighboring Shenzhen, China will fund R&D projects, with a 4.7M$ fund.


One of the areas in which they are interested in is "Development of high-performance silicon driver intellectual properties for display panel (TFT-LCD and OLED) applications."

Samsung Acme i8910 - third AMOLED phone to be announced this week?

So now we hear of a third Samsung AMOLED phone to be announced in the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2009. If this is true, then it will be an exciting event for OLEDs with 3 new Samsung phones, and probably more from other companies as well.

We do not have any details about the display, other than that it's a touchscreen AMOLED. The i8910 runs Symbian S60v5, supports DivX, has a 8mp camera, HDMI, Wi-Fi and can record HD video,

UPDATE: The phone is actually called S8300 Ultra Touch, and it is officially announced. Oh, and there's a video review, too.
