Is Apple working on an OLED netbook?

There are new rumors that Apple are considering using OLED displays in an upcoming Netbook.

Apple are looking to enter the netbook market - using a touchscreen device, that may or may not have a keyboard (in which case it will be a high-end iPod touch). The main issue is obviously the price of the OLED panels. Apple are reportedly talking to Sony about using their OLED displays.

It seems like the old Apple OLED rumors will never die... In any case this new device is slated to be released towards the end of 2009 - so we've got some time to wait...

Sony releases the full spec of the OLED X walkman

Sony NWZ X1000 WalkmanSony has released the full spec of the 'X' series OLED walkman.

It will play MP3, WMA and AAC files (up to 320kbps). It supports videos in formats MPEG4, H.264 and WAV. Interestingly the screen itself is 432x240, but the video formats will only support 320x240. That's strange.

The player also has an FM radio, Wi-Fi (802.11g/b). Sony claims 33 hours of music playing and 9 hours of video watching.

ASUS considering an OLED screen for next-gen Eee

ASUS' CEO said that they are considering an OLED display for the next generation Eee computers.

Today's Eee devices come in 7", 9" and 10" displays sizes. I'm guessing that they will start with the smaller screen sizes for the OLED displays. Just last month we published an OLED-in-laptop poll, and it seems that people are willing to pay extra for an OLED display (and to gain quality, thinness and battery life).

This will not be the first PC to sport an OLED, that honour goes to the OQO Model 02+, but the display on that computer is only 5".

The Kodak 7.6" OLED photo frame price keeps falling, now at 776$ (and we got a 9$ discount for you!)

Update: The picture frame costed 795$ over at Amazon.com, but they are now out of stock.

The price of the Kodak 7.6" OLED photo frame keeps falling... it started out at 999$ (back in December 2008), then at January it was 856$, and then you could get it for 776$ at TheNerds. They even offered 9$ by using the FEB09 coupon (till end of February, just follow the previous link and claim your coupon). The price is lower now at Amazon.com as well - 795$.

Why is the price falling so faster? It might be that Kodak is finding it very difficult to actually sell those frames at such a high price. Or perhaps CMEL are pricing the 7.6" OLED panels lower now.

It seems like Samsung are heavily into those small OLED displays - we've seen several phones and this camera all announced within a week. It'll be interesting to see if other companies will hurry to put the displays in their own gadgets too.
