LG's 55EA9800 curved OLED TV now shipping for $2,799 in the US

It feels like I'm writing the same post over and over again - LG lowers the price of their OLED TV again... Only 7 days ago I posted that LG's 2013 OLED TV model, the 55EA9800 is down to $3,198. And I estimated that it's likely we'll see a 55" OLED TV for less than $3,000 very soon. Well! That did not take long. Amazon is now offering the EA9800 for only $2,799 via online retailer MCMelectronics.

LG recently launched their new 2014 55" curved FHD model (the 55EC9300) for $3,499. They probably do not produce the EA9800 no longer, so supply for the older model is probably limited. LG will also soon launch a 65" 4K OLED, and this one will cost $6,999.

LG's OLED TV prices keep dropping very quickly. When LG launched the 55EA9800 a year ago (August 2013) the price was set at $14,999. The most recent price drops are probably because of retailers that want to get rid of last year's models, but once LG's M2 production line goes into mass production later this year, prices for new OLED panels are expected to drop as well.

I think they are experimenting with the market to check what is a "comfortable" price for a OLED tv.

It should not be far from current premium LED TV.

While still way too expensive for my tastes, I am very encouraged to see the projected price of the LG 65" curved, 4K OLED at $6,999. In my opinion, it will not be long before OLED is mainstream, especially if the price is low enough and OLED TVs are common enough so that the average consumer can compare them side-by-side with other technologies in the showroom

Guess, you will experience quite a hard time, as long as you add a post for each price reduction :-)

All flat-screen TVs on sale are LCD, not LED. I can't understand why store ads show them as LED when there is no LED on sale yet. The LG and Samsung products are the first true LED or OLED products.

Yes, this is a shady marketing tactic. What is sold today as a LED-TV is actually an LCD with a LED BLU unit. But that's what people are now calling this technology.
