Update: You can find cheaper Galaxy S unlocked phones on eBay - starting from $690.
If you don't want to wait for AT&T to release Samsung's Super-AMOLED Galaxy S, you can get it unlocked in the US for $899 (over at Amazon.com). Beside the 4" WVGA Super-AMOLED display, the Android Galaxy S has a 1 Ghz processor, Samsung's 'content Ecosystem' and Social Hub and can shoot HD video at 720p (with a 5mp camera).

Thanks - you're right! I updated my post...
Why is it so fracking expensive? I can go on ebay and buy one from a US seller for less than $700.
