Reports suggest BOE may start trial OLED TV production soon
At SID Displayweek 2022, BOE demonstrated a 95" 8K OLED TV display prototype. This was an impressive display, and reports suggested that BOE is considering to start producing such panels commercially.
According to a new report from Korea, BOE has indeed decided to initiate production of OLED TV panels. BOE plans to produce 300,000 panels in 2022, in sizes ranging from 55-inch to 95-inch.
We now list BOE's 2.69" 600x800 AMOLED display in the OLED Marketplace
We are happy to announce that the OLED marketplace lists a 2.69" 600x800 AMOLED display, produced by BOE.
We know many device makers have been struggling to find small-sized AMOLED displays, as most OLED makers produce either wearable OLEDs (usually up to 1.5" in size) or smartphone-type OLEDs (starting at around 5-inch). This new 2.69" AMOLED can be a great solution for many companies.
Will BOE commercialize its 95" 8K OLED TV display?
At SID Displayweek 2022, BOE demonstrated a 95" 8K OLED TV display prototype. This was an impressive display, and according to DSCC, BOE actually hopes to start producing such panels commercially.
BOE, it seems, aims to produce the display at its B5 R&D line, which has a very limited capacity. But as TVs based on this panel will be premium TVs, the limited capacity may be enough.
Here is BOE's 12.5" flexible transparent OLED display prototype
BOE is showing a new flexible and transparent display prototype at SID Displayweek, this is something we did not see for several years.
The display on show is a 12.5" panel that offers a transmittance of up to 45%. The brightness is 700 nits, and the pixel density is 80 PPI. BOE says it developed a unique pixel scheme to enable the transparency of this display.
BOE demonstrates new OLED displays at SID Displayweek 2022, including a 95" 8K OLED TV
BOE demonstrated its latest OLED technologies and displays at SID Displayweek 2022. The most interesting display is a 95-inch 8K HDR OLED display, produced on an Oxide-TFT panel with a white-OLED CF structure. The panel was produced using an evaporation method.
This is the first time we hear of BOE's evaporation TV program, since around 2016. The company has an active inkjet printing OLED TV project, and in December 2019 it unveiled a 55" 8K (160 PPI) printed OLED TV prototype.
Apple drastically reduces its 2022 iPhone OLED orders from BOE
BOE has been aiming to supply OLED displays for Apple for a long time, and Apple also welcomed BOE as a supplier as it wants to reduce its dependence on Samsung and LG.
In 2020 BOE did not pass Apple's OLED quality test for the iPhone 12, but later it it did manage to enter Apple's supply chain, for aftermarket (refurbished models) 6.06" LTPS AMOLED displays.
CINNO Research: BOE signed a deal with Apple to supply 50 million LTPS OLED panels for the iPhone 14
BOE has been aiming to supply OLED displays for Apple for a long time. In 2020 BOE did not pass Apple's OLED quality test for the iPhone 12 , but later it it did manage to enter Apple's supply chain, only for aftermarket (refurbished models) 6.06" LTPS AMOLED displays.
According to CINNO Research, BOE recently signed a contract with Apple to supply OLED panels for the iPhone 14, which will be launch in October 2022. This will be the first time BOE is supplying OLEDs to a new Apple device. CINNO says that the contact amounts to 50 million panels, about 25% of Apple's total OLED supply. These will be 6.1" LTPS AMOLED displays.
BOE's AMOLED production volume still low as the company faces IC supply constraints
In February 2022 it was reported that BOE failed to secure enough driver ICs, and had to reduce its AMOLED production volume. According to new reports from Korea, BOE is still facing IC supply issues, and it is estimated that it AMOLED volume will remain lower than expected at least until May.
The new report suggests that beyond the IC supply constraints, BOE is also suffering from low yields at its new B12 fab in Chongqing, lower than what it hoped for in 2022.
BOE shipped 60 million AMOLED panels in 2021, aims to ship over 100 million in 2022
BOE's chairment Chen Yanshun says that the company shipped almost 60 million AMOLED displays in 2021, and the company plans over 100 million such panels in 2022.

Samsung Electronics plans to use more OLED panels produced in China in 2022
Last year Samsung Electronics started to adopt AMOLED displays produced by BOE and TCL, as the Korean smartphone makers aims to lower costs and reduce its reliance on Samsung Display.
According to a report from Korea, the company plans to increase these China-produced OLED orders from around 800,000 in 2021 to around 6.5 million in 2022. It seems the main device to adopt these panels will be the Samsung Galaxy A73.
