OLED-Info site redesign!
After more than 3 years, we have updated our site's design... with a much cleaner look. I'd love to hear your comments on the new look!
Applied Materials is into OLED manufacturing equipment
Applied Materials, which made its name by designing equipment for semiconductor makers and television manufacturers, is bulking up to become the chief equipment maker for the greentech industry.
The company is building up an internal group to sell equipment to manufacturers of energy storage devices, such as batteries and fuel cells, say sources close to the company.
Applied also wants to sell equipment to manufacturers of OLEDS. The company is one of the charter members of the European OPAL 2008, which aims to develop cheap OLED lights. Other members include Aixtron, Osram, Philips and BASF. It also has an investment in Plextronics.
US Army orders 20,000 thermal weapon sights with eMagin OLED-XL microdisplays
eMagin announced today that the OASIS system has been selected by the US Army to provide 20,000 units of the Remote Eyepiece Display-Imager (RED-I) head mounted display system for the Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) Remote Viewer program. The RED-I system is equipped with eMagin's OLED-XL microdisplays.
The IDIQ contract awarded to OASYS exceeds $26 million with multi-year production rate deliveries scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2009. The new RED-I product features instant-on startup at temperatures down to -40C, extended battery life, and is compatible with both new and legacy Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) systems. The HMD attaches directly to standard-issue military helmets or protective eyewear, is thin enough to fit behind the blast visor of the cupola protective ensemble, and is backwards compatible with previous versions of the system.
Zhongxian Tech to build China's first AMOLED plant with 65M$ investment
Zhongxian Tech is building China's first AMOLED plant. They will invest 65M$, and hope to begin production in September 2009.
Their plan is to make 50M 2" displays in a year, and generate around 7 billion US$. Last month we heard that Visionox and Tsinghua University began manufacturing on China's first OLED (PMOLED) production line in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, with a plan to make 12 million small panels annually.
Universal Display Corporation Announces Third Quarter 2008 Financial Results
For the third quarter of 2008, Universal Display reported a net loss of $5,302,983, or $(0.15) per diluted share, versus a net loss of $2,960,565, or $(0.08) per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2007.
Commercial revenue remained constant during the third quarter of 2008 when compared with the same quarter of 2007, and increased for the first nine months of 2008 versus the same period in 2007. We are encouraged by the continued adoption of and new opportunities for our UniversalPHOLED technology, said Mr. Rosenblatt. While Samsung SDI’s production capacity remained on level with the same quarter of 2007, they reported that their AMOLED displays are being increasingly integrated into mobile devices like cell phones and MP3 players. In addition, Samsung SDI has showcased recent product prototypes for AMOLED televisions and larger area displays, flexible OLED screens, and more. It is clear they are committed to AMOLED display production both financially and developmentally.
Lumiotec gives some more info on their OLED lighting products
At FPDI, Lumiotec gave some more info on their OLED Lighting products. The panels are only 2.3mm thick, and the has high
color rendering properties and a broad spectrum with peaks in red (R),
green (G) and blue (B) regions.
The company employed a technology called "multi-photon emission (MPE),"
which uses several emission layers stacked vertically. The product on
display had vertically stacked three emission layers with different
emission wavelengths for RGB colors.
