Hyperfluoresence TADF materials developer Kyulux announced a collaboration with PMOLED maker WiseChip to bring Hyperfluoresence TADF emitter based displays to the market by year's end. Wisechip demonstrated an HF TADF display at the TADF Workshop last week in Fukuoka, Japan.
The PMOLED display shown by Wisechip was a 0.96" monochrome yellow 128x64 one. The demonstration showed how much brighter (or more efficient) the Hyperfluoresence based display is compared to Wisechip's current fluoresent-based displays. The power saving is almost 50%.
WiseChip plans to begin offering commercial display products incorporating Hyperfluorescence by Q4 2017 - which will likely make these the first ever OLEDs based on TADF or HF emitters. WiseChip will first offer yellow and green displays, followed by red, blue and white displays.
It is good indeed to see HF evenutally hit the market! I want to mention a nice article from this page highlighting the differences between AMOLED and PMOLED (https://www.oled-info.com/pmoled) - I am curious to see what kind products they will adress with this and if it will generate a significant revenue stream for Kuylux. As I understood, the money seems to be mainly in AMOLED.
What would be of interest to me: I never understood why they are proposing to use hyperfluorescence for yellow. It does not seem to be required to get the CIE values (looking at a pleothora of patents or scientific papers where they reach that color point with TADF with ease), and the efficiency of only 14% EQE is much lower than what is known from TADF as well.
Is the prime motivation here to avoid UDC as a material supplier to save money on royalties or is there a customer advantage as well?
