Alkilu partners with Visionox, aims to ship low-cost OLED lighting products by next month
Alkilu was established in 2013 with an aim to develop innovative consumer OLED lighting products, and the company unveiled their low cost OLED products at CES 2014, with aims to release them later in 2014. They are still not shipping OLEDs yet (despite accepting pre-orders on their web site since June).
Some Alkilu products (for example the Trio OLED Light shown above) us OLED panels made by LG Chem - which is also a marketing partner. Alkilu now announced that it signed a formal partnership with Visionox for OLED panel supply. Going forward, Alkilu plans to offer devices that use panels from both companies. Alkilu will buy the larger OLED panels from LG Chem, while the smaller ones will come from Visionox. The Visionox panels will be custom-designed and will offer some color variations.
Visionox's new Z-Type AMOLED RGB sub-pixel arrangement reaches 570 PPI
Visionox developed a new RGB pixel arrangement for OLED technologies that allowed them to reach 570 PPI. The company refers to this new technology as Z-Type arrangement and it includes 3 sub-pixels (RGB) per pixel (unlike Samsung's Pentile displays). The sub-pixels are densely packed (the aperture ratio seems very high) in a way that does not suffer from jagged edges.
Visionox told me that they cannot yet say when such displays can be commercialized, as there are still manufacturing challenges to overcome. In the meanwhile the company applied for both Chinese and international patents.
Visionox developed a full-color 3.5" flexible AMOLED
In August 2013, Visionox said they developed a 3.5" monochrome flexible AMOLED. Now the company announced that they developed a full-color 3.5" flexible AMOLED based on an LTPS backplane.
The panel is 3.5" inch in size (active area), 22 ?m thick and weighs less than 0.2 grams. The bending radius is less than 5 mm. Visionox said they developed several technologies to enable this panel, including a high transmittance transparent cathode, a new flexible thin encapsulation and an efficient top emission OLED device structure. The company says that they expect to "transfer these technologies directly to industrialization in the future".
Solomon Systech and Visionox developed a qHD AMOLED driver IC
Solomon Systech and Visionox announced that they jointly developed a new qHD (960x540) AMOLED driver IC, which they say is the first one developed in China. The driver passed verification using a 4.6" WVGA full-color AMOLED (probably made by Visionox). The companies are now working to develop a driver with a higher resolution.
This project was funded by China's Electronics Information Industry Development Fund under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Visionox starts constructing a 5.5-Gen AMOLED line, develops a flexible 3.5" monochrome AMOLED
Visionox sent us two interesting updates. First of all, the company started the construction of a new 5.5-Gen AMOLED mass production line. Visionox says that according to current plans they expect to start production in the 2nd half of 2014. We do not have more details about this line and the AMOLED panels they plan to produce in it.
In addition, Visionox developed a new 3.5" monochrome flexible AMOLED. The panel has a maximum bending radius of 10 mm. Visionox says they use thin-film encapsulation for this panel.
About China's OLED industry alliance
A couple of days ago we reported that China has established a new OLED industry alliance. It turns out that the alliance was actually established back in June 2011, and today we bring you some more information.
The alliance is officially called the China OLED Industry Alliance and it was formed with an aim to help grow the Chinese OLED industry. The alliance is headed by the Chinese Government and includes19 member companies, including Rainbow corporation, Irico, Visionox, Tianma, TCL, BOE Display , First-O-Lite, OLightek,Sichuan CCO, Aglaia Tech, Jilin Optical and Electronic materials and others.
Chinese display makers form an OLED industry alliance
Update: it turns out that this alliance was actually established back in June 2011, and it includes 19 members.
Several China-based display makers, including Visionox and Changhong have formed an OLED industry alliance in order to stay competitive with Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese OLED makers. It is reported that the Chinese makers think that OLED is the next-gen display technology and will become the standard for mobile devices in the future.
Visionox is already working on AMOLED displays. Back in August 2011 Visionox officially launched their AMOLED project, which includes a 4.5-Gen production line which will start production in 2013. In November 2011 Visionox said they have successfully developed a 7.6" 800x480 AMOLED panel. Visionox is also developing and producing OLED lighting panels.
Updates on Visionox's OLED lighting program: new panels and lamps unveiled
We've got some interesting updates from Visionox today, regarding their OLED lighting program. The company has started to produce new OLED lighting panels. Those panels (product code BCPW030060A, spec here) are 73x42 mm in size (active area 30x60 mm), and are 1.8 mm thick. The lifetime is over 10,000 hours (LT70) at 1000 cd/m2, and the color temperature is 4500K-5000K. The panels are actually quite cheap at $70. We do not know the efficiency but apparently it's not very high.
Visionox also unveiled their next generation panels, currently being produced in small quantities on a pilot line. The new panels are 80x80 mm in size (active area 64x64 mm) and feature a color temperature of 4500K, over 80 CRI and a lifetime of over 10,000 hours (LT50 at 2000 cd/m2). The new panels are quite efficient (40 lm/W) and Visionox revealed to us that they are using phosphorescent materials. These panels aren't available to buy yet.
Visionox successfully developed a 7.6" AMOLED
Back in August Visionox officially launched their AMOLED project, which includes a 4.5-Gen production line which will start production in 2013. Today we hear that they have successfully developed a 7.6" AMOLED panel that features WVGA (800x480) resolution, 16.7 million colors, 84% NTSC color gamut and 500cd / m² brightness. Visionox says that when 30% of the pixels are lit the panel consumes 4.8W.
The 7.6" panel was developed at Vixionox's Pilot line (completed in June 2010) was co-developed with the Kunshan Industrial Technology Research Institute (K-ITRI).
Visionox plans a 4.5-Gen AMOLED plant, to start production in 2013
There are reports that Visionox officially launched their AMOLED project - with plans to build a 4.5-Gen AMOLED fab which will start production in 2013. The company plans to use this fab to make several sized panels - from 3" to 30" - with applications including phones, computer monitors and TVs.
In June 2010 Visionox completed their first AMOLED pilot production line, developed in cooperation with the Kunshan Industrial Technology Research Institute (K-ITRI). The company is also researching OLED Lighting.
