Matsushita (Panasonic) readies iTunes-friendly music player with OLED display

Japan's Matsushita has introduced an iTunes-compatible digital music player with an expandable storage capacity provided by SD cards to its D-Snap line of devices.

Matsushita's SV-SD100V (right, top) and SV-SD90 both support AAC, the iTunes jukebox software's preferred format, so the players will be of interest to folk who've ripped CDs to AAC using iTunes but are seeking an alternative player to Apple's iPod. The players also support MP3 and DRM-less Windows Media files.

The players are compact 4.3 x 4.3 x 1.7cm units with integrated OLED displays. There's a built-in Nickel Hydrogen power source capable of providing up to 14.5 hours' playback time, Matsushita claimed. The battery can be recharged using the bundled mains adaptor or through the player's USB 2.0 connection.

PC World reviews the Ovideon OLED A/V player.

Ovideon Aviah A slew of portable media players are now available, but the $599 Ovideon Aviah is the first I've seen to use an OLED screen. Unfortunately, on the late pre-production Aviah handheld audio-video recorder and player I tested, the OLED screen was the most distinguishing feature, by far.

OLED display technology promises better colors and smoother video than conventional LED screens. And it delivers: Videos in MPEG-4 format showed brilliant colors and appeared clear and sharp on the 2.2-inch, 521-by-218-pixel screen, with natural-looking colors and great dynamic range.

eMagin corporation logoeMagin says that the new Kinetta digital cinema camera uses their OLED microdisplay. This is a flexible digital movie camera which provides the control and flexibility that cinematographers have always appreciated in their film cameras. The Kinetta camera records everything the sensor puts out, as RAW ten-bit log data, on an onboard miniature hard drive array containing 12 1.8" hard drives.

Kinetta's Jeff Kreines commented: "The OLED microdisplay from eMagin is a perfect fit.
