3 Button Optimus mini OLED Keyboard is Ready

The Optimus OLED Keyboard by Russian design studio Art Lebedev is rivaling the Sony PS3 in anticipation under programmers and gamers in 2006. This week you will be able to pre-order the Optimus mini featuring three OLED screen keys.
The Optimus mini features three color (262k) OLED screens measuring 20x20mm with a 96x96 pixel resolution. Animations with 5fps are supported as well. Overall measurements are 118x51.8x18mm.

The keys carrying the OLED screen measure 32x32mm. With the Optimus Configurator for Windows software the buttons can be freely customized. The company plans to support other OS in the future. Art Lebedev example uses for the Optimus mini are eMail indicator, Powerpoint remote, iTunes remote or RAM and CPU indicators. It is basically like having Apple Widgets on Keyboard keys. The Optimus Keyboard needs Apple OS support urgently.
The full OLED Optimus keyboard is planned to be released end of 2006. The Optimus mini keyboard sells for $100 for a limited time. Shipment starts May 15th.

NI debuts Kore platform

Native Instruments (NI) today unveiled Kore, which it says is "the world’s first" Universal Sound Platform that includes both a hardware controller and a new software interface. The company says that Kore will revolutionize how performers and producers work with software instruments and effects. "Following a decade of evolution in music software, KORE opens up significant new possibilities for the operation of software instruments both in the studio and on stage. It also marks the first host system by Native.
The Kore hardware controller also offers a high-resolution, touch-sensitive knobs and 'Organic LED' (OLED) display technology, NI says the controller "turns a computer-based set-up into a powerful tactile instrument, offering bi-directional communication between controller and software for quick context-specific overviews using USB 2.0 interface.

BenQ-Siemens new S88 using a 2" OLED display

The BenQ-Siemens S88 offers an integrated 2.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, 16x digital zoom and LED photolight. This mobile phone is held in a horizontal position like a "real" digital camera when photographs are being taken. Then the built-in photo editor puts the finishing touches to the shots. To put the pictures on paper, they can be simply sent directly from the mobile to a photo printer via PictBridge.
A high-performance video camera is always to hand too with BenQ-Siemens S88. Movie sequences of any length desired can be shot in MPEG4 format. Sufficient storage capacity is guaranteed. To extend the internal memory (16 MB), the mobile has a slot provided for Micro-SD-Cards. The screen is a 2.0-inch Active Matrix OLED display (262,144 colors, 176 x 220 pixels).
The BenQ-Siemens S88 will be on retail sale from the first quarter of 2006.

LG shows new portable video players

The JM53 Portable Digital Player (Shown right), a super sleek (3.9 by 1.9 by 0.5 inches) 8GB multimedia player featuring a 1.77-inch 260,000 colour OLED and compatibility with MP3, WMA (DRM10), OGG, ASF, as well as MPEG-4 video. The black device has a unique controller system that blends a rocker switch and buttons. The unit has staying power too with a rated battery life of 30 hours.

Finally, the smallest of the bunch, the FM30 Portable Digital Player is a 1GB flash-based player with a 1.77-inch OLED screen (260,000 colours), and compatibility with MP3, WMA (DRM10), OGG, ASF, and MPEG-4 video. At only 2.4 by 1.6 by 0.55 inches, this wearable player is essentially a matchbook-sized version of the JM53 and it has a staggeing rated battery life of 60 hours. Despite bright OLED screens, the JM53 and FM30's small screen size may be a deterrent to prospective shoppers, though battery life is impressive on both. The FM30 will cost US$199 when it's available in the US in Q2.

The Eyebud 800 personal display delivers high-resolution video from any video-capable iPod or other personal video player. Tekkeon Debuts New Bluetooth Headset

Tekkeon, a maker of mobile electronic products accessories, yesterday announced the pending availability of a new Bluetooth headset. The ezTalker digital ET3000 is priced at $119.95.

The ezTalker digital, said Tekkeon, uses Bluetooth standard v1.2 to get a cleaner sound when talking with people on a mobile phone. The over the ear design features a 64 x 48 OLED which provides an incoming caller’s number as well as a list of the last 15 incoming calls for redialing purposes. Also available on the display is information such as headset status, connection status, battery level and volume level.

Liteye Steps Up Production Orders of eMagin OLED Microdisplays

Liteye Systems announced today that it has placed an order for initial production quantities of OLED microdisplays manufactured by eMagin Corporation to fill orders received from military and industrial customers in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Liteye has been developing low-power rugged monocular displays based on eMagin's OLED microdisplays for more than two years.
Kenneth Geyer, vice president of development, Liteye Systems, noted that the new orders come from numerous military and industrial customers who are moving from the testing and evaluation phase into deployment. "The outlook for 2006 and 2007 is bright as we anticipate additional programs moving into deployment phases."
Geyer noted that Liteye products are now in use in areas as diverse as dismounted soldier programs, infrared cameras, telemedicine, portable ultrasound, and the maintenance and repair markets.

eMagin Corporation is providing its microdisplays for Simrad Optronics' LP10TL Target Locator. The LP10TL is a fully integrated fire control solution.
The LP10TL provides instant target coordinates and fall-of-shot correction. The device is menu-driven and works well with field measurement devices, thermal cameras, terminals, gyros, and similar equipment. Providing dual 7x or 12x magnification and operating effectively from temperatures as low as -30 degrees C, the target locator system also incorporates GPS, digital magnetic compass, and a high-resolution OLED display. Its modular design offers a large number of possible configurations to meet each customer's specific requirements.
