C|Net reviews the iRiver SPINN - the AMOLED display is "unbelievably crisp", the best they have seen

C|Net has reviewed the iRiver SPINN A/V player, and they are loving the 3.2" AMOLED display:

...and never have we seen a screen so crisp and so bright. Images are stunning; videos are smooth and sharp. In fact, in the video menus, moving thumbnails are used to illustrate listed videos, and there's enough detail given by the screen to make this look damn impressive.

OSRAM announces the world's first OLED lamp, the Early Future

Update: We've got some more technical details and nice closeup photos of the OLED panels used in the Early Future.

OSRAM has announced the world's first OLED lamp called Early Future. It was designed by lighting designer Ingo Maurer. This is more of a 'prototype' than a real commercial product - they will only make 25 of these lamps, which will cost around €25,000.

The lamp uses 10 OLED panels by OSRAM, sized 132 x 33 millimeters.

Art.Lebedev working on a new Optimus Mini keyboard with one large display and wireless connection

This is from Art.Lebedev's blog:

"We’re starting to work on a completely new design of Optimus mini. Main direction: to have something like ‘mini Tactus’. One small sensor display divided into three (maybe more) zones.  On the top of our wish list is wireless capabilities (a lot of people use Optimus mini three to control Power Point presentations)"

Even when not plugged directly in to the computer Optimus mini should be able to receive signal. Thus one will be able to have AC-powered wireless PC informer anywhere within the Bluetooth range

Samsung SDI on plan to double capacity to 3M AMOLED yearly units, will supply Samsung elec with panels for mobile phones


Samsung Electronics said on Friday that it will introduce AM OLED handsets with either 2.8-inch or 3.2-inch organic panels supplied by Samsung SDI in the first half of this year.



"We have been discussing the supply of AM OLEDs with overseas phone makers and mobile service providers, while the company is in the second phase of investment to double the annual production capacity of AM OLEDs to 3 million from 1.5 million units" an official from Samsung SDI said.
