UPDATE: Indeed you can now buy the OLED walkman, in the UK at least!
The Sony OLED walkman gets a UK release date - May 24th, and will cost 230 pounds for the 32GB. There's no word yet on the US release date, but they say it will be mid-June.
The OLED walkman has a 3" (432x240) OLED touchscreen display and WiFi support. Sony says it's the best sounding walkman ever...
The Samsung M7600 Beat DJ phone is now available through Amazon (unlocked for 400$). We do not yet know when it will be released to a US carrier.
The Samsung M7600 has a 2.8" touchscreen 240x400 AMOLED, unique spin-wheel navigation for spinning and mixing tunes, B&O amplifier and surround sound.
Bouygues Telecom announced that they will ship the Samsung i7500 (with the Android OS) in July, in France. They will also change the name to Samsung Galaxy. The i7500 has a 3.2" 320x480 AMOLED display.
Digitimes reports that Nokia are optimistic about OLEDs, and plan to release more handsets with OLED displays in 2009. Currently Nokia ships the N85, that has a 2.6 AMOLED. We know of at least one more OLED phone that's coming soon, the N86.
Digitimes also say that the two OLED suppliers to Nokia are Samsung (SMD) and TPO, who started making OLEDs at the end of 2008.
UsersPress from Korea reports on some mobile phone sales figures. The say that the Samsung Ultra Touch S8300 is selling great, and in fact has sold over 500,000 units within the first month, just in Europe.
The S8300 has a 2.8" WQVGA AMOLED. It's a 3G (USDPA/UMTA/EDGE/GPRS/GSM) slider phone with a 8Mp camera, DivX support (and many other formats), video recording, A-GPS, FM radio and 80MB of internal memory with microSDHC slot. It's available now on Amazon for 500$ unlocked.
Engadget reviews the new Sony OLED Walkman. Here's what they say on the OLED display (3" Touchscreen 432x240):
"[The OLED is] nothing short of awe-inspiring. The first time we spotted the home screen, we couldn't help but be taken aback -- colors were dramatic, crisp and downright lovely. It really shines when viewing album art, photos and video..."
The 16GB version costs 400$ in Japan, and Engadget doesn't think the OLED display is worth the price:
"So yeah, the OLED panel itself definitely lives up to the hype, but unfortunately we're not so sure a fancy display justifies the steep increase in price versus LCD-based rivals."
Digital Foci has dropped the prices on their OLED photo frames. The 1.5" one is only 24$ (down from 50$) and the larger 2.8" one goes for "less than 89$").
So 24$ can now get you an OLED display. Interestingly, it's not the cheapest OLED around! The cheapest OLED online is the JWIN JP121, a 1.2" OLED frame, which costs 17.26$.
A couple of weeks ago we reported that Cowon is releasing a 32GB version of the S9 Curve player. It's now availabe in the US, for 300$. Here's the product page on Amazon.
The S9 Curve has a 3.3" (480x272) touch screen AMOLED display, FM radio, 500Mhz dual-core CPU, T-DMB, TV-Out and more.
Yesterday we published a story about a video of Samsung's 23" OLED monitor by First Look Review... A recent comment on our post claimed this is a fake (thanks Nuninho1980!)...
And I believe that indeed this is true. This is not an OLED monitor, but a regular one, probably the P2370L. Let me tell you why:
So I don't know if this is an honest mistake by First Look Reviews (thinking that LED means OLED), or not, but it any case - I'm quite certain that this monitor ain't OLED...
UPDATE: TechRadar reports that they got word from Samsung saying that indeed this is the P2370L, and that the error originated from Samsung's own communication. So this is it... we're still waiting for a large OLED product from Samsung.
