Samsung sold over 10 million Galaxy S phones in 2010

Last week we reported that Samsung sold over 9.3 million Galaxy S phones, and they're on the way to achieve 10 million in sales. Today Samsung officially announced that the phone sales indeed reached 10 million units.

You can see in the map above that sales reached 2 million in Korea, 4 million in North America and 2.5 million in Europe. By the way - I'm now a proud owner of a Galaxy-S myself... so I contributed a bit there.

Samsung sells 9.3 million Galaxy-S phones in 2010 so far

It seems that Samsung will be able to reach its 10 million Galaxy-S sales goal for 2010: they just announced that they have sold 9.3 million phones so far in 2010, and expect to sell at least 10 million by the year's end. In Korea, the Galaxy-S outsold the iPhone 4 during 2010 (2 million units of Galaxy S vs only 1.8 million iPhones).

The new Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is designed to take advantage of AMOLED screens

Google has released the new Android v2.3 (Gingerbread). One of the updates is a new user interface (UI) - which seems to use more blacks. There are reports that this is so intentionally to take advantage of AMOLED displays (who consume no power on black pixels).

This is not really surprising. It seems that AMOLED is slowly taking over the high-end smartphone market (and Google themselves chose an AMOLED for the Nexus-S phone. Or at least in some versions). Come July 2011, when Samsung's new Gen-5.5 plant (with 10X the capacity of their current plant) begins to produce AMOLEDs - and we're sure to see much more Android phones with AMOLEDs.

Samsung Stealth V outed, to have a 4.3" AMOLED display?

According to documents from the DLNA organization, there's a new Samsung phone called the Stealth-V (SCH-i510) that will have a 4.3" AMOLED display (WVGA). Other specs include Android v2.2, a 8mp camera and DLNA of course, over Wi-Fi.

A couple of weeks ago we reported about a new Samsung flagship Android phone due in February 2011. The new phone is said to have a new 4.3" Super-AMOLED 2 display. It might be that the Stealth-V is this mystery phone indeed...
