Notion Systems – interview on EHD printing in the display industry
Notion Systems, a leader in ink jet printing for industrial applications, has been active in the display market for a long time. The company is now promoting its EHD technology for high precision printing. Here’s an interview we conducted with Antonio Schmidt – SVP Sales & Business Development and Jochen Seeser – Senior Process Development Manager, Notion Systems.
Hello Antonio and Jochen, thank you for your time. In 2022, you started offering EHD printing systems. Can you explain how this technology works and what applications does it enable in the display industry?
Notion Systems has been active in the display market since 2016, when we delivered an n.jet display for pixel printing to a lab of a leading display manufacturer in China. Since then, we have supplied several inkjet displays for RGB printing and encapsulation to various R&D and production sites in China and Taiwan. I think we can also claim that we are the only manufacturer, along with perhaps one other U.S. competitor, that has multiple systems in operation for 24x7 display production.
The MicroLED Industry Association grows to 40 members
The MicroLED Industry Association (MIA) is happy to announce its 40th member, New Silicon Corporation (NSC), an integrated circuit company based out of Singapore. The microLED industry is still at a very early stage, but Interest in microLED technologies is growing.
The MicroLED Industry Association was established in July 2022, to promote microLED technologies, foster industry collaboration and initiate educational and marketing campaigns for its members. NSC joins a wide range of members including microLED display makers, component suppliers, technology developers, established companies, early stage startups and leading research institutes. You can see the full member list online.
The MicroLED Industry Association to host an automotive microLED display webinar
On September 4th the MicroLED Industry Association will host a private webinar on automotive displays and technologies. The automotive market represents a very good segment for display developers, as it offers high performance requirements and the ability to adopt premium solutions. Many analysts believe that this market will be one of the first ones to adopt microLED technologies (together with the AR/VR and wearables markets).
During the webinar, we will look at current solutions and future roadmaps, learn how the automotive industry looks at display solutions and next-generation technologies and see how microLEDs could find a market in the automotive industry.
The upcoming Seminar will feature three world-leading speakers, and will also be open to a Q&A session, to help increase microLED developers knowledge and involvement in the automotive industry:

AUO may close down its AFPD OLED fab in Singapore as it focuses on microLED for next-gen wearable and automotive displays
AU Optronics has a 4.5-Gen AMOLED production line in Singapore, active since around 2013. The AFPD line is a small-scale operation, and AUO never managed to expand its capacity and compete with large AMOLED producers.
According to a report from Japan, AUO is now considering closing down the AFPD line, and converting it to microLED R&D production line. It could move it back to Taiwan, or retain Singapore as a hub for AUO in Southeast Asia. The company will make a final decision, it seems, in early 2024.
