The HTC Droid Incredible won't ship until July 12th (at the earliest)

Last month we reported that the HTC Incredible is not available - because of component shortages, specifically the Samsung-made AMOLED display (a 3.7" 480x800 WVGA panel). Now we hear that it won't ship until July 12th at the earliest.

Samsung announced that they can't meet customer demand in their OLED plant - and they won't be able to do so until next year at least. Recently they commited $2.2 billion for new AMOLED production lines, to go online in 2012.

The HTC Droid Incredible is suffering from AMOLED shortage

The HTC Incredible is an Android (v2.1) phone with similar hardware to the Google's Nexus One. It has a large 3.7" 480x800 WVGA touch AMOLED display, made by Samsung. It costs $99 with a new service plan for Verizon, but it's actually unavailable now. Verizon says that component shortages are to blame - specifically the AMOLED display (made by Samsung).

The HTC Incredible is now shipping for Verizon

The HTC Incredible is now shipping for Verizon's network in the US - and it costs $99 with a new service plan (if you want to use an existing plan, it'll cost $530). The Incredible has the same hardware as Google's Nexus One, but with HTC's Sense UI: 3.7" 480x800 WVGA touch AMOLED display, Android 2.1, 1Ghz processor, 8mp camera and 8GB of internal memory (plus a microSD slot).

HTC Desire and Legend to be released for UK's Vodafone in April

UK's Vodafone says that HTC's Desire and Legend phones will be released on April. The Legend has a 3.2" touch AMOLED (480x320) and a 5Mp camera, while the Desire has a larger 3.7" AMOLED (800x480) and a 1Ghz CPU. Both phones are running the Android 2.1 OS. Interestingly The Legend (that phone is exclusive for Vodafone UK) will include Vodafone's own 360 social service on top of the Sense UI.

We do not know how much the phones will cost, but if you want them unlocked, Amazon will offer then for $601 (Legend) and $795 (Desire).

Sprint's first WiMax 4G phone to have a 4.3" AMOLED

Electronista reports that Sprint's first Wimax (4G) phone will be the HTC Supersonic. It's a hign-end Android 2.1 phone with a 4.3" OLED, 1Ghz processor and a 5 mp camera. If this is true, than this is the largest AMOLED display on any phone. The 4G network will enable 3-6Mbps speeds. The phone will be ready in the first half of 2010.

Sprint's WiMAX covers only 27 cities in the US with major cities such as Boston, New York and San Francisco to get covered later this year.

HTC launches 2 AMOLED phones at 3GSM


HTC just launched two new AMOLED phones at CES. The first is the Desire (which was leaked a while back as the Bravo), with a 3.7" 854x480 touch AMOLED. This has the same hardware as the Google Nexus One (1Ghz CPU, 720p HD video recording, Wi-Fi, GPS and a 5mp camera. It runs the Android 2.1 OS).

The second phone is the Legend, also leaked a while back. This one has a hVGA 3.2" AMOLED, 600Mhz processor, Wi-Fi and a digital compass. It also runs Android 2.1.

What's the best Android phone display?


Engadget has posted an interesting comparison between 6 different Android phones: MyTouch 3G, HTC Hero, Motorola Milestone / Droid, Acer Liquid, Google Nexus One, and Samsung Galaxy (laid out clockwise in the image below). Two of these have OLED displays, the Samsung Galaxy and the Nexus One. Engadget say that the best one is the Nexus One's 3.7" AMOLED. You can see for yourself in the following photo and video:

The HTC Bravo (with a 3.7" AMOLED) to ship in March?

In December 2009, HTC's roadmap leaked, and there were two OLED phones in there, the Bravo and the Legend. Now we hear that the Bravo will be released in March in Sweden. The Bravo has a 3.7" WVGA touch AMOLED (854x480) display, it's running the Android-OS on a 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU, and is capable of 720p HD video recording. It has Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 5mp camera.

Will HTC launch 2 AMOLED phones soon?


HTC's new lineup for 2010 has leaked online, and there are a couple of AMOLED phones in there. The Bravo has a 3.7" WVGA touch AMOLED display. It will be running the Android-OS on a 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU, and is capable of 720p HD video recording. The rumored release date is April 2010.
