Super AMOLED: introduction and market status - Page 19
I finally have an OLED phone...
After years of refraining from having a smart phone, I finally bought a Galaxy S. The Super AMOLED display is terrific - and everyone I show it to says it is impressive ("so That's what you've been talking about all those years...").
Super AMOLED Plus updates
Update: It turns out that the new manufacturing process that is discussed here is LITI (currently they use FMM). More details here!
We've got some interesting updates about Samsung's upcoming Super AMOLED Plus displays. We know that Samsung said that the new displays feature 50% more sub-pixels, and today we confirmed that Samsung no longer uses Pentile matrix in the new displays - which is great news - they are using regular RBG. Samsung's new manufacturing process allows them to reach over 300ppi - which is comparable to the iPhone 4 "Retina Display" (which features 326ppi).
The last bit of information is regarding the OLED materials - it turns out that Samsung aren't using a Green Phosphorescent material yet. The Super AMOLED Plus displays (like the first-gen Super AMOLED) use just a Red Phosphorescent with a Green and Blue Fluorescents.
Samsung to launch the "Galaxy S2" phone next month with a 4.3" Super AMOLED plus
There are reports that Samsung is set to announce the successor to the successful Galaxy S during MWC 2011 (Samsung officially said that they will announce new Super AMOLED Plus phones during the conference). The Galaxy S2 (not an official name yet) will have a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display, a dual-core processor, Android v2.3 and NFC support (as in Google's Nexus S phone which is made by Samsung).
This phone was actually leaked in November 2010. Back then it was said that the phone will include a 8mp camera (capable of Full-HD 1080p recording), 1.2Ghz processor, Android v2.3 and 16GB of on board memory.
Samsung to show new Super AMOLED Plus phones in February
Samsung says that they will show new phones in the Mobile World Congress (on February) - that will use Super AMOLED Plus displays. The phones will also feature Android v2.3 (Gingerbread) and dual-code processors.
The company also plans to announce new tablet computers (not clear whether they'll also do so in the MWC exhibition or at a later date) - new Galaxy Tabs. No word on the display used in those, but we know that Samsung will soon produce 7" Super AMOLED panels...

Samsung announces Super AMOLED plus displays
Update: We got some new details about these new displays.
Samsung has announced their latest AMOLED display, the Super AMOLED Plus. They say that the new display feature 50% more sub-pixels, and also features improvements in contrast and outdoor readability over the 'original' Super AMOLED displays. Samsung also announced the first phone to sport these new displays - the Infuse 4G. The display is a 4.5" one, the largest AMOLED Samsung ever made!
Back in July 2010, Samsung announced that they plan to soon double their AMOLED displays' efficiency, lifetime and power consumption. Perhaps the Super AMOLED Plus is the result of that research. We first heard of an upgrade to the Super-AMOLED technology in November 2010, we thought the name would be Super AMOLED 2.
Samsung to launch a new 4" Super-AMOLED phone for the Korean-market?
There are reports that Samsung is set to release a new Android phone for the Korean market with a 4" Super-AMOLED display. The SHW-M190S will have similar specs to the Galaxy-S but will look differently, and will include an HDMI out:
Samsung sold over 10 million Galaxy S phones in 2010
Last week we reported that Samsung sold over 9.3 million Galaxy S phones, and they're on the way to achieve 10 million in sales. Today Samsung officially announced that the phone sales indeed reached 10 million units.
You can see in the map above that sales reached 2 million in Korea, 4 million in North America and 2.5 million in Europe. By the way - I'm now a proud owner of a Galaxy-S myself... so I contributed a bit there.
Samsung sells 9.3 million Galaxy-S phones in 2010 so far
It seems that Samsung will be able to reach its 10 million Galaxy-S sales goal for 2010: they just announced that they have sold 9.3 million phones so far in 2010, and expect to sell at least 10 million by the year's end. In Korea, the Galaxy-S outsold the iPhone 4 during 2010 (2 million units of Galaxy S vs only 1.8 million iPhones).
The Galaxy S is an Android phone with a 4" WVGA 800 X 480 Super-AMOLED display.
