Sprint: overwhelming demand for the Galaxy S3, delays shipments
Sprint says that they got "overwhelming" demand for the Galaxy S3. So much in fact that they ran out of devices. Those who pre-ordered the 16GB model should recieve their S3 tomorrow, and 32GB pre-orders will ship next week. The S3 pre-order numbers were very strong according to Samsung, and it seems that the S3 is on track to becoming a very popular phone...
The US version of the S3 has a 4.8" 1280x720 HD Super AMOLED (with Pentile), a dual-core 1.5Ghz CPU, 2GB of RAM and an 8 mp camera (1080p video) and lot's of new software features. The phone weighs 133 grams and is only 8.6 mm thick.
Samsung at SID 2012
Samsung had a very big presence at SID 2012 - showing all sorts of OLED panels, from small ones to large 55" panels. Obviously the most interesting item on display was the 55" OLED TV. As I said before, these OLED TVs are simply stunning, beautiful colors and images and even the 3D effects were great.
Samsung was showing 3 TVs: one showing regular 2D images, the other 3D images (you needed to use active shutter glasses of course) and the final one showing dual-view images (you use the glasses but each user sees and hears a different Full-HD image altogether). I went to the booth several times (and was also invited for a one-on-one guided press tour) - but in all the excitement I forgot to actually shoot a video...
UK carriers see very high Galaxy S3 pre-orders
We already heard reports that Samsung got nine million pre-orders for the upcoming Galaxy S3 already, but today we got some confirmation from UK carriers. Carphone Warehouse says that the S3 is the "quickest-moving pre-order of the year so far" and Vodafone UK say it's the most pre-ordered Android device to date. The S3 is also available unlocked in the UK, for £499.95, or $808 (that's a sim-free, 16GB model). According to Amazon it will ship on May 30.
It seems that the S3 is set to surpass the company previous best-seller, the Galaxy S2 which in February 2012 passed the 20 million units mark.

Samsung producing sample Super AMOLED Plus HD displays, used in Tizen developer phone?
Just a few minutes ago we posted about Samsung's claim that they used Pentile in the Galaxy S3 because it lasts longer. There are some reports however that Samsung already managed to produce Super AMOLED HD Plus 4.8" display. In fact it is said that they are using this display in a Tizen (open source OS) development model that they handed out to some developers.
It may be that Samsung cannot yet mass produce such displays, and so they couldn't use it in the S3. Anyway we'll probably know more soon...
Samsung - we keep using PenTile AMOLED displays because they last longer
Update: We discussed this with Nuovoyance's VP, he explains better why PenTile displyas lasts longer...
Some people really dislike Pentile displays, but Samsung keep producing AMOLED with PenTile - even in their flagship devices such as the new Galaxy S3 (which sports a 4.8" 1280x720 HD Super AMOLED). Today we hear that Samsung says that one of the major advantages of PenTile AMOLED displays is increased lifetime.
In PenTile displays, there are twice as many green subpixels as there are blue suxpixels. Blue OLEDs feature the lowest lifetime, and so Pentile displays "tend" to last longer, according to Samsung. In any case, as the resolution gets higher, it's getting harder to actually notice the "fuzziness" caused by the Pentile Matrix...
Direct sunlight: Nokia's CBD Lumia 900 beats the Galaxy S and the iPhone 4
DisplayMate performed some testing of several smartphones and tablets under bright ambient lighting. The handset that came on top was Nokia's Lumia 900 (which uses the company' ClearBlack Display technology and an AMOLED display). The second-best handsets are the iPhone 4 and the Super-AMOLED packing Samsung Galaxy S.
