Samsung Display introduced three new special displays modes enabled by AMOLED technology - an ultra power-saving mode (already used in some of their smartphones), color weakness mode and super dimming mode. These are great examples how OLED's emissive nature can be used for innovative solutions.
The color weakness mode can help people with color vision deficiency to distinguish red and green clearly - by inceasing (or decreasing) the brightness of the red and green subpixels.
Super dimming mode provides a comfortable viewing experience in very dark environments without any distortion or dazzle. The displays outputs only 1 or 2 nits which Samsung says is the best brightness for very dark rooms.
In the ultra power mode, the display turns into a weak black and white display. In this mode the display consumes very little power and SDC says that it can be used for example in emergency situation - so that a regular smartphone will last up to 8 days with a battery that has only 63% charge.
Very curious about why ultra power mode has to be black. In principle, White/Black does not save more power than R/G/B, isn't it?
