UK-based PolyPhotonix, has been researching OLED technologies for many years, and its first commercial product will be the Noctura OLED sleep mask which helps patients with Diabetic Retinopathy.
The company announced today that it has signed a deal with Pioneer for the supply of OLED panels for the sleep masks.
PolyPhotonix's Noctura mask can be used to treat Diabetic retinopathy patients that are at risk of losing their sight. The mask is designed to be worn at night and deliver a precise dose of light therapy while the wearer is asleep. The treatment reduces and reverses the effects of diabetic retinopathy.
It is not clear what kind of panels will Pioneer be supplying to PolyPhotonix. Pioneer withdrew from the OLED lighting market in 2019 when it dissolved its partnership with Konica Minolta. This could mean that Pioneer continues its OLED lighting project on its own - or it could mean that the mask will actually use PMOLED display panels? Hopefully we'll learn more soon.
