Osram begins shipping new OLED products
OSRAM Pictivia New product line Osram Opto Semiconductors continues to expand its Pictiva line of OLED graphic display products and today announced that it is shipping two new solutions designed for the consumer and communications markets.
The new products include a 128x48 pixel solution and a white and blue display format for Osram’s existing 96x36 pixel displays.
Designed for the fast-growing MP3 player market, the new 128x48 display is a standard product available in seven different colors. Depending on the color, this 1.2-inch product offers a lifetime between 10,000 and 40,000 hours.
The new 96x36 product is offered in both white and blue is designed for handset sub-displays, as well as alternative communications and consumer applications with similar size and specification requirements.
Pictiva products are driven by standard IC-driver technology that supports both parallel and serial interfaces
OSRAM Announces Delivery of First Milestone in DOE Lighting Program
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc. today announced it has reached the first milestone in its three-year, white OLED project, funded by a $4.65 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The 2004 DOE grant was issued to research the potential of white OLEDs to save energy in commercial and residential lighting applications.
The advanced white-light prototype is based on multiple, discrete 2-inch x 3-inch white-light devices fabricated on glass substrates. OSRAM's first-year deliverable is an advanced prototype light source where each tile in the module has a luminous efficacy of 7 lumens-per-watt (lm/W) and a color-rendering index (CRI) of about 80. The prototype operates at an average luminance of 250 nits. At program end, OSRAM will produce a color-balanced OLED white-light source with a luminous efficacy of 40 lumens per watt at 800 nits and an operating half-life of 3,000 hours.
Anders Electronics: reference design kit for Osram Opto Semiconductors' Pictiva OLED products.
Anders Electronics is offering a reference design kit that will significantly reduce the time to market of applications based on Osram Opto Semiconductors' Pictiva OLED flat panel display products. The Osram Pictiva Evaluation Kit combines a Pictiva display with all of the hardware, software and support tools needed to rapidly prototype, test and implement OLED-based designs.
Designed for use with a standard Windows desktop or laptop PC, the Pictiva Evaluation Kit comprises an evaluation board with a 128 x 64 format Pictiva display, the Pictiva software, a USB cable, the control keyboard, a power supply and full support documentation.
Osram announces expansion of OLED display product line
Osram Opto Semiconductors said it expects to roll out 12 new PMOLED displays by the end of this quarter.
The displays will come in three sizes (0.9" 80x48, 1.5" 96x64 and 1.6" 128x64) and a choice of four colors (lime green, jungle green, tiger orange and scarlet red). The new displays will address the industrial, medical and white-good industries
Germany is aiming to become a leader in OLED
The government has already started up a â¬100 million ($130 million) initiative to support research and production of OLED's. Firms like Merck, Osram, Philips and Samsung have pledged to invest over â¬500 million.
Anders Electronics to distribute Osram's PMOLEDs in the UK, Germany and Switzerland
Anders Electronics is now offering a range of PMOLED displays made by Osram Opto Semiconductors. Anders will provide engineering and design-in support for Osram’s Pictiva OLED displays in the UK, Germany and Switzerland.
The Pictiva range includes display formats ranging from 80 columns x 48 rows to 128 columns x 64 rows. Available color options are green, yellow and orange. They are designed to be driven by standard IC driver technology that supports both parallel and serial interfaces.
OSRAM annonces a user kit for Pictiva PMOLEDs, DigiCharm selects it for wearable applications
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors announced the new Pictive User Kit - which is an assessment platform to simulate and test Osram's Pictiva PLED based PMOLED displays.
OSRAM also announced that Canada's DigiCharm is the first company that selected the user kit for use in its "wearable" products - which include highly customizeable name tags aimed to marketing and sales environments.
Osram received orders for 1.5 million PLED displays
