OLED material suppliers ramp up capacity

As manufacturers of OLED displays target mass production, suppliers of OLED materials are also boosting their capacities to expand their market by releasing light-emitting materials, electron transporting materials and ITO coating glass.

South Korea's OLED materials market earns an average of Krw50 billion ($49 million at Krw1,011:$1) annually. Nevertheless, the industry has been relying on overseas companies for their raw materials.

According to Byun Woo-geun, CEO of Gracel Display, the company's first quarter sales already surpassed last year's sales revenues. GDI supplies main OLED materials, including red/green/blue (RGB) luminaries as well as electronic injection and transporting materials, to local manufacturers. Meanwhile, Shinsung Eng Co. Ltd recently commenced production of its own OLED materials after receiving its patents and completing its production lines.

In addition, Sun-fc Co. Ltd, a supplier of fluorescent materials, also expanded its capacity to reach a broader OLED market base.
