Engadget reviews the Tab 7.7: the best 7" tablet, stunning display
Engadget posted a review of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 7.7. They say that it's the best 7" tablet - with a stunning display, a long lasting battery, good performance and thin size. The only problem? it's quite expensive. And they sure love the 1200x800 Super AMOLED Plus display - "We could tell you it's vibrant, stunning and breathtaking, but even that wouldn't quite do it justice. The contrast here is so deep, and the viewing angles so wide, that other tablets' screens look washed-out in comparison". Amazon.com is now offering an unlocked model for $749.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the world's first tablet with an OLED display, a 7.7" Super AMOLED Plus panel, offering 1280x800 resolution. Other specs include Android v3.2, Dual-core 1.4 Ghz processor, HSPA+ radio, 16GB to 64GB internal storage and a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, GPS and two cameras (3MP and 2MP).
Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus Galaxy Tab 7.7" now available unlocked in the US for $749
Amazon.com is now offering Samsung's Super AMOLED plus packing Tab 7.7 (P6800) - for $749. This is an unlocked model, probably with 16GB of memory - and it's shipping now. This is a lot cheaper than in the UK - where it costs over $1,250 (£808) and will only ship in 1-2 months. This seems to be a model bought in Korea and shipped to the US.

Toshiba's 7.7" AMOLED tablet on video
Here's a video showing Toshiba's 7.7" AMOLED Tablet prototype unveiled at CES 2012:
According to our information, that AMOLED display does not use PenTile, which probably means it's a Super AMOLED Plus panel, the same one that Samsung uses in their own Galaxy 7.7 Tab.

Toshiba shows their 7.7" OLED tablet
Toshiba held a press conference, one day before CES 2012 opens, and they unveiled the OLED tablet they already said they'll show. It seems that the tablet is a "reference design" - so it's not a finished product yet. And the OLED panel is 7.7".
According to the report, the OLED does not use PenTile. It's probably the same Super AMOLED Plus panel that Samsung uses in their own Galaxy 7.7 Tab. Hopefully we'll hear more from Toshiba soon - including when and where they plan to release this tablet.
Toshiba to show an OLED tablet at CES
Update: The tablet actually has a 7.7" display with no Pentile, here's more info and photos
CES hasn't started yet (two more days!) but already news is coming in. This time it is Toshiba, announcing it will show a "high brightness" OLED tablet. We do not have any official information yet, although some sites suggest it will be a 7" tablet.
This actually makes sense as we know that Samsung just added a new 7" AMOLED product which indeed features high brightness (400 nits).
Samsung adds a new 7" AMOLED product
Samsung added a new AMOLED product to their web site - a 7" WSVGA (600x1024) AMOLED display, aimed towards tablets. Interestingly this new panel is quite bright - 400 nits. The 7.7" AMOLED (used in the upcoming Tab 7.7) is only 250 nits bright.
We do not know of any product that uses this display yet - the first one will probably be a Samsung made tablet. Or perhaps this will be used in Google's rumored high-end Tablet? Hopefully one of these will be revealed in CES 2012 soon...
Samsung uses Atmel's touch controllers in key Super-AMOLED devices
Atmel announced that Samsung is using their maXTouch E Series single-chip touch controller in the Focus Flash, Focus S, Galaxy Tab 7.7, the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Note. Atmel's maXTouch E touch controllers offer a single-chip solution that has an updated capacitive touch engine (CTE) that features new noise avoidance and noise suppression capabilities. According to Atmel, the new controllers has an improved performance in every aspect compared to their older generation controllers - higher fidelity touch sensing, faster responsiveness, lower power consumption and thinner form factors.
Google to launch a tablet soon, will it have an OLED display?
Google's chairman Eric Shcmidt told a reporter that Google plans to market a tablet "of the highest quality" in the next 6 months. It may be that Google is simply planning a "marketing push" for Android tablets, but it's more likely that Google will launch their own branded Tablet - just like the Nexus range of phones.
If indeed they plan a high-quality product, it's quite possible that it will have an AMOLED display. Google's entire Nexus range of phones had AMOLED displays - the 3.7" WVGA OLED of the Nexus One, the 4" WVGA Super AMOLED of the Nexus S and the 4.65" HD Super AMOLED (1280x720) of the Galaxy Nexus. Samsung are already producing 7.7" Super AMOLED Plus displays, as used in the upcoming Galaxy Tab 7.7.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is headed for Verizon with LTE
There are reports that Samsung's Super AMOLED plus packing Tab 7.7 is headed towards Verizon - and this particular model will support LTE. Last week we reported that an unlocked 3G model is now available fore pre-orders on Negri Electronics, for $668. We're not sure if all these reports are real, but the tablet sure is coming soon (it did arrive in the FCC for testing and approval weeks ago).
