MagnaChip is a Korean designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products for high-volume consumer applications. The company's main markets are Semiconductor Manufacturing Services, Display solutions and Power solutions.
MagnaChip offers driver ICs for AMOLED displays, and since 2007 the company shipped over 730 million OLED driver ICs (this was true in 2022, so the number is higher now). In 2018 the company reported high growth in its AMOLED driver business.
In May 2018 MagnaChip launched its 3rd-generation 40-nm OLED display driver (DDIC) that supports edge-type displays, 21:9 and bezel-less displays and notch-type OLEDs. The company later announced that it is developing a new flexible OLED display driver based on the company's ultra-low power 28-nanometer process. In 2022, Magnachip announced it is developing drivers for automotive AMOLED displays.
In 2021, China-based Wise Capital aimed to acquire MagnaChip, but this acquisition was blocked by the US Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
