ITRI and Corning developed a full roll-to-roll process for flexible glass substrates
ITRI announced it has developed a full roll-to-roll process on 100um flexible glass substrates - they say they're the first in the world to do so. ITRI has been collaborating with Corning on this technology, and they are using Corning's flexible Willow glass, unveiled at SID 2012.
ITRI and Corning developed specially designed R2R machines that produce touch panel modules on Corning Willow Glass, a flexible display-grade glass substrate. ITRI are now looking for companies that sell this technology - which can be used for OLED display and lighting panels, solar panels and more applications.
NTHU developed the world's lowest color temperature OLED
Taiwan's National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) say they have developed the world's lowest-color temperature OLED lighting panel. The researchers say that high color temperature lighting can lead to insomnia, biological clock disorder and even cancer according, and this new OLED can be safer.
The new OLED panels will go into trial mass production soon, in collaboration with ITRI. This research follows the team 2009 research that developed OLED lighting panels that can change color temperature to match sun-light throughout the day (2300K-8200K).
Taiwan forms an AMOLED alliance, Asus and HTC to secure all of AOU's capacity
Taiwan's government is forming an AMOLED alliance - to compete against Korean makers - mostly Samsung. The alliance will include seven partners: two AMOLED produces (AUO and Chimei Innolux) and ITRI, Acer, Asustek, HTC and MediaTek. It is reported that HTC and Asustek will secure all of AUO's upcoming AMOLED capacity.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), who is coordinating the alliance will invest around NT$10 billion (about $333 million US) in AMOLED R&D (mostly though ITRI). CMI will come up with an AMOLED production plan which will get subsidized by the government. Officials from the MOEA say that AMOLED is "rising as a must for next-gen smart phones", and is also likely to enter into the tablet and TV markets.
ITRI developed a 6" flexible color AMOLED
Taiwas's ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) has developed a new 6" flexible color AMOLED, using their FlexUPD technology. The display is just 0.01cm thick, and can continue to show images even when folded. The folding radius can reach 5cm or less, and the screen can be scrolled up to 15,000 times.
ITRI says that their FlexUPD technology is the simplest and cheapest technology for mass production paper-like displays. FlexUPD will be commercialized soon, and AUO plans to use it for flexible e-reader products "very soon".

Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is showing a new flexible 4.1" color OLED display. They say that it's more flexible and 'softer' than their previous prototypes.
ITRI is also showing new e-paper displays.
ITRI shows 4.1" Flexible AMOLED Prototype
Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is showing several new flexible display prototypes - AMOLEDs, roll-to-roll cholesterol liquid crystal displays and electrowetting displays.
ITRI's AMOLED is a 4.1" panel, made on plastic substrate. The prototype is monochrome, but it can be made with color materials.
