Novaled and Ciba Specialty Chemicals Enter Industrial Collaboration in OLED Materials

Novaled and Ciba Specialty Chemicals announce an industrial collaboration in the field of OLED materials. Ciba Specialty Chemicals will produce the unique organic dopant and transport materials developed by Novaled.

The unique organic dopant and transport materials for its proprietary OLED technology Novaled PIN OLED(TM) allow OLED devices to perform with the highest power efficiency. While Ciba Specialty Chemicals will produce these materials using its specific know how in the synthesis of organic materials in reliable highest purity, Novaled will continue to market the materials. The two companies will also collaborate in the development of future OLED products and platforms based on the Novaled's technology and materials.

SID 2006, OLEDs represent the largest single technology

With 13 of the 70 technical sessions at the Symposium, OLEDs represent the largest single technology concentration at SID 2006. Sessions will focus on OLED device structures, active-matrix (AM) OLEDs, OLED manufacturing, materials, and blue-emitting OLEDs. Notable OLED papers will cover flexible AMOLEDs on stainless-steel substrates (one paper each by Samsung SDI and Universal Display Corp.), and white OLEDs (Novaled GmbH).

Novaled Boosts Top-Emitting OLED To Record Efficiency

Novaled Achieved a New Record for a Top-Emitting OLED. A Saturated Green Was Emitted with an Unsurpassed Current Efficiency of 95 cd/A.

The record for green light emission with a colour coordinate of 0.31 / 0.66 was measured at a brightness of 1,000 cd/m2 and a very low operating voltage of only 2.55 V. "With this groundbreaking result Novaled increased its latest values of more than 20 percent" states Jan Blochwitz-Nimoth, CTO. "The foundation for the success is clearly Novaled's PIN technology (using doped transport layers) and our proprietary molecular dopant in a full-organic OLED structure".

Novaled develops LED with high power, long life

OLED company Novaled GmbH has developed a red top emission OLED that produces 10 lumens per watt at 500 candelas per square meter, with a projected lifetime of more than 100,000 hours.

According to Novaled, the OLED achieves a breakthrough by combining the highest power efficiency and longest lifetime for a top emission OLED, using transport layer doping technology. The part uses a red phosphorescent emitter from Covian Organic Semiconductors GmbH with molecular dopant materials from Novaled.

Philips, Novaled break OLED record

Philips and German firm Novaled have announced white OLEDs operating at a brightness of 1000cd/m² with a record-breaking efficiency of 25lm/W.

work between Philips’ Lighting and Research divisions, and Dresden-based Novaled, combined Philips’ materials selection, optical outcoupling technology, and layer schemes for building up OLED devices, with proprietary doping technology from Novaled.

This is an encouraging result that clearly demonstrates the potential of OLED technology for lighting applications, said Klaas Vegter, chief technology officer of the Lamps business group at Philips Lighting.
The results of the research will be used in future developments, ongoing projects, and the recently started European project OLLA (Organic LEDs for Lighting Applications), in which both companies are involved.
