Everdisplay unveiles the specification of its latest wearable AMOLEDs
A few weeks ago Everdisplay demonstrated several AMOLED prototypes, including some new displays such as a 0.95" square AMOLED and a 1.2" circular one.
In a recent tradeshow, Everdisplay demonstrated these new displays, but now the company unveiled the specifications of its new panels. The 0.95" square AMOLED features a resolution of 180x120 (228 PPI), a thickness of 0.5 mm and a luminance of 350 nits. The 1.2" circular panel is 390x390 (326 PPI), 0.4 mm thick and with the same luminance of 350 nits.
Everdisplay shows new wearable and VR AMOLEDs prototype, announces design-win for a 1.2" Huawei smartwach
During CES Asia 2016, Everdisplay demonstrated several AMOLED prototypes, including some new ones. For the wearable market, EDO is showing several displays:
- 1.2" circular
- 0.95" square
- 1.41" square
- 1.4" circular (already in production)
EDO announced that the 1.2" panel will enter production in July 2016 - and the company says that Huawei will launch a smartwatch with this display in September. EDO also reveals that Hauwei's 1.4" round Watch (shipping now for $349 - $799) uses an AMOLED made by EDO, as well.
Everdisplay demonstrates a 5.57" transparent OLED
During a trade show in Beijing, Everdisplay (EDO) demonstrated the company's first transparent OLED, a 5.57" panel as you can see below. The panel features a pixel density of 264 PPI and the transmittance seems to be 40%.
Everdisplay recently also unveiled a 5.6" WQHD (2560x1440, 525 PPI) flexible OLED prototype. Everdisplay started mass producing 5" 720p AMOLED displays towards the end of 2014. Since then the company seems to be accelerating its OLED program, and besides the new transparent and flexible prototypes, we know it is developing larger displays (5.5", 6" and an 8" AMOLED for the automobile market), round AMOLEDs (a 1.4" 400x400 circular AMOLED for the wearable market) and high density (734 PPI) AMOLEDs.
ETNews: BOE, Everdisplay and Truly to start constructing flexible OLED fabs in early 2016
According to ETNews BOE, Everdisplay and Truly are all expected to start constructing flexible OLED fabs in the first half of 2016, as the companies realize they need to compete with Samsung and LG in that market.
BOE Display aimed to start mass producing AMOLED displays at 5.5-Gen LTPS OLED fab in Ordos in the second half of 2015, but reportedly they are still struggling with low yields. BOE is also constructing a Gen-6 LTPS LCD/AMOLED production line in Chengdu, China, scheduled for production in the first half of 2017. Earlier reports suggested that BOE aims to produce flexible OLEDs at that new fab. In May 2015, BOE demonstrate several new AMOLED prototypes, including several flexible panels.
EverDisplay unveils a 5.6" WQHD flexible AMOLED prototype
Everdisplay (EDO) unveiled a 5.6" WQHD (2560x1440, 525 PPI) flexible AMOLED prototype. This impressive display is the first flexible OLED prototype by the Chinese OLED maker. EDO says that flexible OLEDs are set to become the display of choice for top-tier brands.
Everdisplay started mass producing 5" 720p AMOLED displays towards the end of 2014. Since then the company seems to be accelerating its OLED program. The company is developing larger displays (5.5", 6" and an 8" AMOLED for the automobile market), round AMOLEDs (a 1.4" 400x400 circular AMOLED for the wearable market) and also recently demonstrated a 6" 4K (734 PPI) AMOLED display.
Everdisplay demonstrates a 6" 4K (734 PPI) AMOLED display
Everdisplay developed a 6" 4K AMOLED display - achieving 734 PPI. This is the first 4K 6" AMOLED prototype to be demonstrated. Everdisplay says that emerging applications such as virtual reality will demand such high-resolution displays.
Everdisplay started mass producing 5" 720p AMOLED displays towards the end of 2014. The company is also developing 5.5" and 6" panels for mobile devices, a 1.4" 400x400 circular AMOLED for the wearable market and an 8" AMOLED for the automobile market.
Digitimes: China's AMOLED production capacity to grow 373% by 2017
Digitimes research estimates that small and medium AMOLED production capacity in China will grow 373% by 2017, which will establish China as the number two AMOLED producer behind Korea.
Currently the only Chinese AMOLED producers are Everdisplay, with a 4.5-Gen production line and Visionox which has recently started to produce panels in their 5.5-Gen fab. According to Digitimes, Taiwan's AU Optronics has a larger capacity AMOLED fab (which I'm not sure is true), but growth in China will surpass the growth in Taiwan.
Everdisplay unveils its 8" automotive AMOLED display prototypes
Last month China's Everdisplay announced it is developing a 8" AMOLED display for the automotive market, and now the company unveiled first prototypes at the CES Asia trade show.
The 8" display features Full-HD resolution, 2 ms response time and a contrast ratio of over 100,000:1. The display operates in a wide temperature range (-40 to 85 Celsius).
Digitimes says HTC and Huawei will adopt EverDisplay's AMOLEDs in new 2015 smartphones
Towards the end of 2014 China's Everdisplay (EDO) started producing AMOLED displays with an initial capacity of 600,000 5" panels per month, and the company already claims at least one Chinese smartphone maker as a customer. Today Digitimes reports that the company (which they refer to as Hehui Optoelectronics, which is Everdisplay's Chinese name) has signed up HTC and Huawei a customer, with several new AMOLED phones expected later in 2015.
Everdisplay's first AMOLED display is a 5" 720p (293 PPI) panel - and it's likely that this will be the panel adopted by HTC and Huawei. On the other hand, EDO is also developing 5.5" and 6" AMOLEDs for mobile phones, so these may end up on the new phones too.
EDO updates its AMOLED roadmap, is developing an 8" AMOLED display
Towards the end of 2014 we reported that China's Everdisplay (EDO) started mass producing 5" 720p AMOLED displays with a capacity of 600,000 panels per month. EDO has since discussed its roadmap several times, and today they updated it again with some new information.
We already know that EDO is developing new 5.5" and 6" AMOLEDs. While we knew the company is developing a circular display, EDO now reveals they plan to release a 1.4" panel - and not a 1.35" as previously reported - which probably means that EDO is the producer of the 1.4" 400x400 panel used in Huawei's upcoming Watch.
