Audi details the OLED lighting panels used in the 2018 A8
In July 2017 Audi unveiled its flagship luxuries sedan, the 2018 Audi A8, which uses OLED taillights. Hopefully the A8 is Audi's first car with OLED panels in all versions (the 2016 TT RS also has OLED lighting, but these were optional).
Audi did not yet reveal the specification of these OLEDs, but now it has released the image above which shows the structure. The A8 uses four OLED modules on each side , each with what seems to be 6 different structured panels, a large red one and five yellow ones which form the turn indicators.

Is LG the supplier of the Mercedes S-Class Coupe OLED taillights?
LG Electronics Germany posted a short press release in which it says it has launched its first OLED taillights product, adopted already by a major European car maker.
As you can see in the image above, this is the OLED Taillight used in the Mercedes 2018 S-Class Coupe and Convertible, unveiled last month. We do not know much details on this module, only that each one contains 33 individually controlled red OLED panels.
Mercedes unveiled its 2018 S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet with OLED taillights
Last month Mercedes-Benz announced it will unveil its 2018 S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet cars, and both will sport OLED Taillights. The company now officially unveiled its "dream-car" models with these beautiful OLED modules:
We do not know for sure who produces these OLEDs, but it seems likely that it is LG. It's not clear yet whether these OLEDs are optional (as was the case in the Audi TT 2016). Each module uses 33 individually controlled red OLED panels.
Mercedes to introduce OLED taillights in its upcoming S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet cars

LGD in talks with German automakers to supply them with OLED lighting panels
A few days ago we posted that LG Display demonstrated an OLED Taillight module - the first time LGD actually unveiled an OLED lighting design for the automotive market. According to a new article in Business Korea, LGD is indeed in advanced talks with Germany automakers to supply OLED lighting systems starting in 2018.
According BK, LGD is in talks with Mercedes Benz, Audi and Volkswagen. The OLED lighting panels will be produced at LGD's upcoming 5-Gen OLED lighting fab. LGD's should start low-volume production soon, and the company aims to ramp-up production to 15,000 monthly substrates by the end of 2017.
LG Display shows an automotive OLED taillight design
While LG Display has been demonstrating automotive OLED displays for a long time (based on its plastic flexible OLEDs, mostly) with plans to enter the market in 2018, its OLED lighting business unit has been pretty quiet in this front.
LG Electronics now published the video you see above that shows an OLED lighting automotive taillights, based on LGD flexible OLED lighting panels. Not a lot of details in this video besides showing a sample module - but it is great to see LG Display targeting automotive OLED lighting which could be the first major market to adopt OLED lighting technologies.
Pioneer expects its flexible OLED lighting to hit the automotive market by 2020
In June 2017 Konica Minolta and Pioneer established a new OLED Joint Venture called Konica Minolta Pioneer OLED, which will combine the OLED business and product divisions of both companies, with a focus on automotive applications.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review, Pioneer is aiming to deploy flexible OLED panels - and the company hopes it will have products ready for commercialization by 2020. Pioneer has already demonstrated flexible OLED based prototypes, and is in talks with OLED makers regarding the adoption of its panels in future cars.
Wisechip shows its latest PMOLEDs at the TADF Workshop in Japan
Wisechip, the Taiwan-based PMOLED maker, demonstrated its latest display panels and prototypes at the TADF Workshop last week in Fukuoka, Japan. This was an impressive display and a great chance to experience the latest PMOLEDs displays from Wisechip.
So first up we have the company's transparent PMOLED. This is a 4.1" (106x37.9 mm) segmented T-OLED specifically aimed for automotive HUD applications. The display has 4 colors (red, orange, green and blue) and offers a typical brightness of 800 nits (max is 1,500 nits). According to Wisechip the display will soon hit the market for a specific automotive partner.
