Smart pen developer Anoto Group announced that it has been commissioned to develop a digital screen pen for Samsung Display's foldable OLED screens for mobile phones, tablets and PCs. SDC will pay Anoto for the pen development (which will be finalized by the end of 2022) and will also pay royalties to Anoto as SDC will produce the pen itself.

Anoto explains that established screen pen solutions cannot be used with foldable OLED displays due to their thinness and size. Anoto says that its proprietary dot pattern technology and pen are uniquely suitable for foldable displays.

OLEDWorks announced that it is the supplier of the digital OLED rear lights adopted by Audi in its 2022 A8 and S8 cars. These OLEDs are now standard in the new A8.

Customers can choose one of two light signatures on the A8 (the S8 offers three possible signatures). Audi says it will deliver the first cars in Q2 2022.

Business Korea is reporting that the Korean Government may designate OLED technology as a "national strategic technology", which means that companies will be given tax benefits, to encourage further investments and R&D in the OLED industry.

This new designation was proposed by the Korea Display Industry Association and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Currently there are 34 national strategy technologies in Korea, including EV batteries, advanced semiconductors and vaccine technologies.

According to reports in Korea, HP has decided to launch a foldable OLED laptop by the end of the year. HP will source 17-inch 4K in-folding OLED panels from LG Display.

The Elec suggests that LGD will start mass producing the 17-inch panels in Q3, with plans to produce around 10,000 units.
