Cynora achieves breakthrough in its green TADF material, test kits are now available for display makers

OLED material developer Cynora announced that it achieved a breakthrough in its deep-green TADF material, which it brands as cyUltimateGreen. The new material delivers an efficiency of over 20% (EQE), a lifetime of 400 hours (LT95@15mA) and a color point and emission spectrum that matches today's DICI-P3 standard (Cynora does not specify the exact number).

Cynora further announced that is now making test kits of the new deep-green emitter available to its customers. Display makers can now start testing and verification using the new material. Cynora says it will also 'soon' follow with a deep-blue TADF solution.

SDC to start producing 90Hz OLED laptop displays soon

Samsung Display announced it will start to produce 90Hz OLED laptop displays by the end of the first quarter of 2021. The first display panel to support this new refresh rate will be 14-inch in size

SDC hopes that its new AMOLED display panels will introduce a 'major shift' in the laptop market. It believes that even though a 90Hz display will require a high-end graphics card, consumers will demand the new display as the experience benefits will be impressive. Samsung says that its 90Hz OLEDs will be on par with 120Hz LCDs in terms of moving images blur.

BOE to invest $155 million in a 12-inch wafer OLED microdisplay project

BOE announced it is raising new funds (a total of $3 billion) towards several projects, including an increase at its stake at its LCD lines and increase the capital at its 6-gen flexible AMOLED line in Chongqing.

According to the reports from China, one of these projects is a $155 million USD project to develop 12-inch OLED microdisplay production. This is a large sum that will also likely include funds to actually start 12-inch production and not just R&D.

Samsung introduces an under-the-OLED camera technology for laptop displays

Samsung Display is introducing a new OLED display technology, called "Samsung Blade Bezel" - which includes an under-the-display camera embedded within a laptop display. This enables reducing the bezels:

We have already seen similar technology from Visionox adopted in smartphones - but the performance is disappointing. A few months ago ZTE announced the first smartphone with an under-the-OLED camera - the The Axon 20 5G.

LG announces its entry level OLED A1 and OLED B1 2021 TVs

Earlier this week LG Electronics announced its OLED TV range for 2021, with its higher-end TV models (the OLED C1, the OLED evo G1 range and the 8K Z1). Today LG unveiled the company's two entry-level 2021 OLED TV ranges.

The OLED B1 updates its OLED BX range from 2020 and features 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, LG's previous-generation Alpha 7-4 processor, HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and HDMI 2.1. The OLED A1, available in 48/55/65 and 77-inch sizes, is similar but with a 60Hz 4K WOLED and HDMI 2.0 only. It will be interesting to see the OLED A1 prices when the TVs ship later in 2021.

NIO introduces its latest EV, the ET7, with a 12.8-inch AMOLED

Chinese EV producer NIO introduced its latest electric car, the ET7, which will come with a 12.8-inch 1728x1888 AMOLED display.

The ET7 includes other innovative technologies, such as AI, over 11 cameras and sensors integrated into the body, advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving platform and a 600 miles driving range. The ET7 will sell in China and Europe.
