Xiaomi recently launched new QD-enhanced LCD TVs in China, and its executive Li Xiaoshuang says that the company is planning to launch its first OLED TVs in Q1 2020.

Xiaomi will join several Chinese-based TV makers who already ship OLED TVs, including HiSense and Skyworth. LGD aims to increase its OLED panel shipments to Chinese TV makers from around 300,000 units in 2019 to over 2 million in 2021.

Photonics-based solutions provider Coherent reported its financial results for Q3 2019 - revenues of $335.5 million and a non-GAAP gross profit of $122 million.

Regarding the OLED market, Coherent says that it finally started to receive some new orders for OLED equipment (ELA), following a "stretch" where there were no new system orders. Coherent says that it looks forward to the OLED ramp - with 2020 as a "bit of a recovery over 2019" - but the real strength coming in 2021 and 2022.

Researchers from Korea's Yonsei University has developed a 3D printing technique that can be used to deposit transparent OLED displays on any shape. The new technique 3D prints both the support structure and the 3D screen electronics.

The method is based in Digital Light Processing (DLP) system that prints the transparent plastic frames, and then uses an electrohydrodynamic jet (e-jet) printer to create the OLED layers as seen in the image above.
