China's Skyworth launched new OLED TVs for 2016, the S9300 and the S9-I, which seem to be the same TVs with support for HDR. Both TVs are offered in 55" and 65" and feature 4K resolution, JBL speakers and Skyworth's SmartTV platform 5.0. All the TVs, of course, use WRGB OLED panels made by LG Display.

The 55" 55S9300 costs 元14,999 (about $2,300) while the 65" 659300 costs 元25,999 (about $4,000). The S9-I are of course more expensive, and the 55" 55S9-I costs 元16,999 (about $2,600) while the 65" 65S9-I costs 元29,999 (about $4,600).

Taiwan's ITRI showcased over 30 new OLED lighting lamp designs, it co-developed with the Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association (TLFEA). ITRI also demonstrated a new automotive OLED lighting prototype it co-developed with Ta Yih, which you can see below.

ITRI is reportedly building a Roll-to-Roll (R2R) R&D pilot line to produce flexible OLED lighting panels on flexible glass substrates. The line will be operative by 2017, and will be able to produce about 700 panels per month.

In January 2016 Audi said that the 2016 Audi TT RS coupe, a high-end serially produced car, will use OLED taillights. Last week during the LOPEC 2016 conference Audi's project manager for innovation projects Werner Thomas said that the company is still on track to deliver consumer vehicles with OLED lighting in 2016

If Audi holds true to its word, the 2016 TT RS will be the first serial-produced car with OLED lighting. In September 2015 BMW announced that they are starting to produce the M4 GTS at very limited quantities - and this car has OLED lighting too. But only 700 such cars will be produced.

Idemitsu Kosan announced that LG's latest OLED TVs use the company's materials. Idemitsu and LG have a strategic OLED alliance in place since 2009, and the two companies signed a mutual-cooperation agreement and patent licensing in 2014.

Earlier this month UBI estimated that Idemitsu Kosan's OLED material sales grew from around $50 million in 2014 to around $80 million in 2015. Idemitsu's OLED material shipment to LG are probably what's behind this large increase as LG is ramping up its OLED TV panel production

Last month ETNews reported that that Apple chose Samsung Display as the company's primary OLED supplier for its next-gen iPhone, and the two companies signed an official contract - with Flexible OLED supply for Apple's next iPhone to begin in 2017.

Yesterday Yonhap News, another Korean news agency, confirmed the story, and added some new details. This is still not official of course (SDC declined to comment), but according to Yonhap Samsung Display agreed to supply 100 million 5.5" AMOLED panels to Apple per year, for about $2.6 billion - with shipment starting to 2017. Apple will maintain this contract for at least three years.

Researchers from Japan's Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL) and Advanced Film Device developed a display that includes an OLED display on top of a reflective LCD. The idea is that such a display have high visibility in both a dark environment (using the emissive OLED) and a bright one (using the reflective LCD).

This is similar somewhat to transflective LCD displays and can prove to be a smart solution. The researchers say that the same FET layer is used to control both display devices and so results in a low-power device. The researchers will present this new development at SID DisplayWeek next month and hopefully we will bring more information.

LG started shipping its 2016 curved 4K OLED TV model, the 55" OLED C6: Amazon.com now lists the 55" C6 for $3,245. The 55" C6 follows LG's 2016 top-of-the-line 65" Signature OLEDG6, that costs $7,999. Another 2016 OLED TV, the 65" OLED E6 will ship soon for $6,999.

The OLED C6 is a curved 4K smart OLED TV that features LG's webOS 3.0, Color Prime PRO technology and HDR. LG will also release a 65" model later this year.

ITRI's new OLEDs will be based on flexible glass substrates. Back in 2012 ITRI collaborated with Corning to develop a full roll-to-roll process on 100um flexible glass Willow glass substrates. It's likely that the new line will also use Corning's Willow glass.

Aixtron announced that it installed a OVPD OEC-200 (200x200 mm) system at Institut Lafayette (a part of the Georgia Institute of Technology international campus in Metz). The new OVPD system joins a previous MOCVD tool installed at Lafayette.

Aixtron and the Institut Lafayette also signed an agreement to collaborate on future research and development activities.
