Samsung announced that the 12" AMOLED Galaxy TabPro S tablet will ship tomorrow in the UK for £849 (around $1,200). The TabProS is Windows 10 convertible hybrid tablet, that features a 12" 2160x1440 AMOLED display, an Intel Core m3 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 128/256 GB SSD drive.
The UK-based Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) recently installed a new roll to roll (R2R) slot die/screen printing and encapsulation line that can be used to print, coat and pattern a range of organic and in-organic solution based coatings.
The new line can assist researchers with development towards commercialization of a host of printable electronics applications - including photovoltaics, OTFT and printed batteries. The system was custom-built by VDL, and it consists of two pieces of equipment - a roll to roll slot die coating and rotary screen printing and a coating toolset.
Samsung announced that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are selling at a "record" pace. Pre-orders for the new flagship phones, so far, has been 2.5 times higher than those for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
UK retailer Carphone Warehouse reported a 200% increase in GS7 pre-orders compared to the GS6.
IHS performed a teardown of Samsung's Galaxy S7, and the company estimates that Samsung's latest flagship costs $255 to build - with a bill of materials (BOM) of $249.55. The retail price of the S7 is around $670 (Verizon, US).
The most expensive component is the application processor which is based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset and is estimated at $62. The second most expensive part is SDC's 5.1" 2560x1440 (577 PPI) Super AMOLED display - which is estimated at $55. IHS tested the flat S7 and not the S7 edge - but in the table they released (see above) they say that display is Dual Edge display - which is a mistake.
LG Display is showing some new OLED lighting products and solution at Light+Building 2016. LG's latest flexible OLED panels - including the 200x50 mm and 406x50 mm panels already on offer from LG.
Above you can see the main highlight of the flexible OLED section uses new 320x320 mm flexible panels. I believe this is the first time such panels are on display, and there's no word on availability yet.
A couple of months ago US-based OLEDWorks announced that its Philips acquisition is finalized, and the company now introduces new OLED panels and modules.
So first up we have an update to Philips' OLED Brite FL300 panels. The Brite 2 FL300 are more efficient than the original FL300 (more than 60 lm/W for the 3,000K panel - up from 50 lm/W), a higher CRI (over 90, R9>50). The new panels are also available in two colors: 3,000K and 4,000K. You can find the preliminary product sheet here.
LG Display have officially asked Samsung Display to start making OLED TV panels again and help Korea beat Chinese companies to the OLED market. LGD's CEO says that Samsung will indeed join with LG, and this more a matter of timing.
LGD further updates that the work towards its $8.7 billion P10 OLED fab in Paju has begun - or at least some of the land work is underway. This will be the world's largest OLED fab, and will produce both large OLED TV panels and small panels for mobile devices.
OSRAM is mostly focused on OLED for the automotive market, and the company recently announced a five-year strategic plan that includes a â¬2 billion investment in current and future lighting applications - which includes OLEDs for the automotive market. OSRAM says that their automotive OLED lighting panels will enter mass production in early 2016. OSRAM is the OLED supplier of BMW's M4 GTS taillights. The M4 GTS will enter limited-edition (700 units) production and may be considered the first commercial car with OLED lighting.
According to a report from Korea, Mercedes signed an agreement with LG Display to supply its 12.3" FHD flexible pOLED displays for a future E-Class automobile. The dashboard of the upcoming car will use two such displays, side by side - one showing the instrument cluster and the other information such as navigation.
Yonhap news says that LGD aims to become the world's largest automotive display provider. LG Display wants to gain a 30% market share and reach $2 billion in yearly sales from this market. LGD already supply LCDs to this market, but the Korean maker expects flexible OLEDs to "fast replace the currently available glass-made LCD panels".
