Samsung: "It's too premature to commercialize OLED TVs", too expensive

Yoon Boo-keun, the head of Samsung's TV business unit says that "It's too premature to commercialize OLED TVs due to strong price resistance. Consumers will not buy it without affordable prices, leaving small room for greater marketability,". While Samsung seems to believe that OLED TVs are "coming soon", the company will probably not start to make them while they're so expensive.

This is in contrast to LG, who will soon release their 2nd OLED TV - a 31" one that will cost around $9000. Obviously LG also knows that these are very expensive and they'll only be able to sell a handful.

Samsung also says that they now expect AMOLED screens shipments to reach 700 million by 2015 (in May, they said it'll be 600).

A Samsung executive talks about the Galaxy Tab display. He said that while Super-AMOLED is the best-in-class display, they are using S-LCD because it's cheaper, there's no supply issues, and it's actually more efficient than AMOLEDs currently (that's not the first time we hear this).

The good news is that next year we're expecting AMOLED supply to rise sharply. And Samsung are planning to double the efficiency of their AMOLED displays soon.

Beside the beautiful display, the NWZ-S765 has 8GB memory (at least in the model they're showing at the IFA show). It comes in black or silver.
