UBI: the foldable OLED market will grow to 61 million units by 2027

UBI Research estimates that the foldable OLED market will reach 22 million units in 2023, and will grow to 61 million units by 2027, a CAGR of 29%.

UBI also published a forecast on cover material market for foldable OLEDs - this market will also expand, and will grow to $840 million n 2027. UBI says that the market share of ultra-thin glass will grow, as Samsung will only produce foldable OLEDs with UTG in the future, and other makers including BOE, CSoT and Visionox are developing UTG panels.

UBI Research: medium and large OLED shipments to grow from 26.1 million units in 2022 to almost 70 million in 2027

UBI Research says that shipments of medium and large area OLED panels (which the company defines as 10 inches and up) will reach 26.1 million units in 2022. The market is set for fast growth, and shipments will reach 69.5 million units by 2027.

The main application by revenue will be TV panels, over the whole projected period, and OLED TV panel shipments will reach 14.8 million units in 2027, and generate $9.18 billion in sales.

UBI sees sales of rigid OLED panels to continue and decline, while flexible and foldable OLEDs are on the rise

UBI Research says that according to its latest information and forecasts, shipments of Samsung's rigid smartphone AMOLED displays declined to 19 million units in Q3 2022, a drop of over 50% compared to last year. Rigid smartphone OLED display sales will continue to decline at an annual rate of 12.9% and will reach only only 96 million units in 2027.

Flexible OLED sales will continue to increase at a rate of 7.4% from 2022 to 2027. In 2027, Samsung Display will ship 220 million flexible OLED displays, while BOE will ship 140 million OLEDs.

UBI Research: the OLED materials market will grow 8.6% annually to reach $2.75 billion by 2027

UBI Research says that according to its latest study, the OLED emitter market is set to grow from around $1.82 billion in 2022 to $2.75 billion in 2027, with an annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.6%.

In 2027, UBI expects Samsung's emitter material orders to amount to $680 million - fueled by growth in foldable OLED panels. BOE's emitter material orders will reach $380 million, and LG Display's - $230 million.

UBI: Samsung Display to produce QD-OLED monitor panels at its upcoming 8.7-Gen A5 line, targeting Apple as its main customer

According to UBI Research, Samsung Display has decided to produce QD-OLED panels at its upcoming 8.7-Gen A5 production line. The company IT display strategy will be to produce QD-OLED panels for monitor application (27-inch displays, at first) and tandem RGB panels for smaller IT displays (tablets, laptops).

Samsung is looking for design wins with Apple for both its display architectures - the larger QD-OLED panels for Apple's monitors and the smaller sized panels for its tablets.

UBI: the OLED for IT market is set to grow from 9.5 million units in 2022 to 48.8 million units in 2027

UBI Research estimates hat shipments of OLED panels for IT applications (tablets, monitors and laptops) will reach 48.8 million units by 2027, growing from around 9.5 million units in 2022 (a CAGR of 39%).

In 2022-2024, the main application for OLED panels is in laptops, but this will change from 2025 and onwards as tablets will also become a dominant applications (as Apple will start adoping OLEDs in its high-end iPads).

UBI: sales of medium and large OLED displays will reach 26.3 million units in 2022

UBI Research estimates that sale revenues of medium and large OLED displays (UBI defines these from 10-inch and up) rose 22.9% in Q2 2022 compared to the previous quarter and 11.2% compared to last year - to reach $1.67 billion.

In term of sales, UBI estimates that total shipments in 2022 will reach 26.3 million units. Most of the growth in 2022 will come from laptop displays - where shipments almost doubled in the second quarter to 2.18 million units.

UBI: 724.8 million small-area OLED displays will ship in 2022

UBI Research estimates that in 2022, a total of 724.8 million small-area OLED panels will ship. By 2027, the market will grow to 937.8 million units.

In Q2 2022, UBI says small-area OLED revenue were $7.87 billion, a 16% decrease from the first quarter, and a 9.7% increase compared to last year. In terms of shipments, 130 million units were shipped in Q2, down from 150 million. UBI expects that rigid OLED market revenues will continue to shrink as OLED makers in China are reducing the price of their OLED panels.

UBI: OLED emitting material sales will reach $1.81 billion in 2022

UBI Research says that OLED emitting material sales amounted to $412 million in the second quarter of 2022, up 7.8% from last year. Sales decreased about 2.1% from Q1 2022.

UBI says that the sales of OLED panels were seasonably low in the second quarter (compared to Q1), but this was somewhat offset due to favorable exchange rates, and supply of new materials with higher prices.

UBI: the OLED emitter material market up 9% to $420 million in Q1 2022

UBI Research says that the OLED emitter material market reached $421 million in Q1 2022, down 21.1% from the previous quarter, but up 9% compared to Q1 2021. UBI estimates that the OLED emitter material market will reach $1.77 billion in 2022, and will grow to $2.4 billion by 2026.

UBI says that sale of materials for TV and mobile devices decreased (compared to Q4 2021) while sales of materials for the production of IT (laptops, tablets and monitors) displays were up $6.6 million.
