Omdia: in five years OLED penetration into the laptop display market could exceed 10%

Market research firm Omdia estimates that 5.58 million OLED laptop displays shipped in 2021, up 389% from 2020. The leading producer is Samsung Display with a 84% market share, followed by LG Display (10%) and BOE (5%).

Omdia estimates that in five years, OLED penetration into the laptop display market could exceed 10%. The total laptop display market in 2021 amounted to 280.85 million panels.

Omdia: LG Electronics OLED TV shipments grew 80% in Q3 2020

Omdia says that in Q3 2021 LG Electronics have passed the 10 million OLED TV shipments, since it started shipping OLED TVs in 2013. It took LGE seven years to sell its first 5 million TVs, and only 2 more years to sell the next 5 million.

In Q3 2021 LGE sold (according to Omdia) almost 900,000 OLED TVs, a 80% growth over Q3 2020. The total OLED TV market grew to 1.53 million in Q3, and Omdia expects it to pass the 2 million units market in Q4. LGE holds a 60% market share of the OLED TV market.

Omdia: laptop OLED shipments to grow from 150,000 units in 2019 to 2.57 million in 2021

Market research firm Omdia experts OLED for laptop shipments to grow rapidly - from 150,000 units in 2019 to 1.48 million units in 2021 and 2.57 million in 2022. The new Windows 11 which was just announced by Microsoft is expected to accelerate adoption of OLED panels in laptop devices.

Omdia estimates that the entire global OLED market will grow to 258.4 million units in 2021 - a 51% increase over 2019. The pandemic has increased demand for IT devices.

Omdia sees 8.3 million OLED TVs produced in 2021, a 86% increase from 2020

Omdia says that according to its estimates, LG Display will produce 8.3 million OLED TVs in 2021, a 86% increase from 2020 (4.5 million units). The company increased its estimates slightly (previously Omdia said that in 2021 LGD will produce 8.1 million panels).

LG Display's own target for 2021 is 8 million units. Demand for premium TVs is on the increase, and LG Display increased its production capacity, mostly at its Guangzhou line. LG Display's production of 48-inch and 42-inch panels may also decrease its average panel size which may increase total unit shipments.

Omdia: OLED shipments in Q2 2021 will reach 110 million units, details its flexible OLED 2020-2021Q2 estimates

Market research company Omdia says that flexible OLED shipments in Q2 2021 reach 57 million units,a 54.1% increase over Q2 2020 (but a 35% drop compared to Q1 2021, due to seasonality and lower orders by Apple). Rigid OLED shipments will reach 53 million units in Q2 2021.

The leading flexible OLED maker is Samsung Display, which will ship 39.1 million flexible OLED panels in Q2 2021 (a 61.6% increase over Q1 2020). LG Display will ship 10.6 million units of flexible OLEDs, an increase of 55.9% over last year. The third largest producer, BOE, will ship 7.9 million units, a 31.9% drop from last year, as orders Huawei are shrinking.

Omdia sees the popularity of large-size OLED TVs to increase

Omdia estimates that over 22,000 units of large-area (at least 80-inch) OLED TVs will ship in 2021, up from 900 units in 2020. OLED TVs ranging from 70- to 79-inch will also hit a record sales volume of 325,700 units, up 70% from 2020 (which saw a 245% increase in 70- to 79-inch OLED sales).

According to Omdia, in 2020 sales of 60- to 69-inch OLED TVs exceeded that of 50- to 59-inch ones for the first time, and in 2021 Omdia expects this trend to continue and even expand.

Omdia: LG Display holds a 92.5% share of the Automotive AMOLED market

Market research company Omdia estimates that LG Display held a 92.5% share in the automotive AMOLED panel market in 2020, in terms of sales. Samsung Displays accounted for 6.9% and BOE 0.6%.
