AUO starts shipping a new 1.3" on-cell touch 240x240 AMOLED display

Taiwan's AU Optronics starts shipping a new AMOLED display for wearable (and other) applications. The new AMOLED is a square 1.3" (active area 23.28x23.28 mm) panel with a resolution of 240x240 (261 PPI).

A few days ago we reported that AUO has reportedly managed to increase its AMOLED production yields, and the company is now indeed launching new AMOLED displays and resumes production of smartphone-sized AMOLEDs.

AUO sees improved AMOLED production yields, resume smartphone AMOLED production at lower prices

Taiwan's AU Optronics started to mass produce smartphone-sized OLED panels back in August 2014, but the company later changed its focus to wearable and VR panels. AUO production capacity is relatively low at its AFPD Gen-4.5 LTPS fab in Singapore, but we now hear reports that AUO's yields have been improving.

In fact AUO has managed to lower the prices of its AMOLED displays, and has now resumed production and sale of smartphone sized OLEDs, especially its 4.97" 720p (1280x720) on-cell touch AMOLED.

OLED-Info's OLED Marketplace offers what we believe to be the world's largest OLED catalog. Today we updated the marketplace's graphics, adding new icons instead of the old photo-based interface.

OLED-Info's OLED Marketplace offers what we believe to be the world's largest OLED catalog. Today we have upgrade the marketplace software - making it easier to filter available OLED displays by resolution.

PitekPro launches a new 256x64 PMOLED character-replacement module

Taiwan-based PitekPro launched a new 256x64 monochrome white PMOLED display. According to the company, this display is aimed to replace 16x2 character displays (whether PMOLED ones, or competing LCD displays) so that device makers can upgrade easily from a character display to a graphic one.

Everdisplay unveiles the specification of its latest wearable AMOLEDs

A few weeks ago Everdisplay demonstrated several AMOLED prototypes, including some new displays such as a 0.95" square AMOLED and a 1.2" circular one.

In a recent tradeshow, Everdisplay demonstrated these new displays, but now the company unveiled the specifications of its new panels. The 0.95" square AMOLED features a resolution of 180x120 (228 PPI), a thickness of 0.5 mm and a luminance of 350 nits. The 1.2" circular panel is 390x390 (326 PPI), 0.4 mm thick and with the same luminance of 350 nits.

BOE shows new OLED prototypes at SID 2016

BOE Display had a large booth at SID, and the Chinese company demonstrated several new AMOLED prototypes - including large 10" panels and bendable OLEDs.

So first up we have 4.35" bendable and foldable OLED displays. The bendable panels offer a resolution of 1120x480 (HWVGA, 280 PPI) and a bending radius of 15 mm. The brightness is 350 nits. The color gamut is 100% NTSC. The foldable panels are the same - except the bending radius is much smaller at 5 mm.

Everdisplay shows new wearable and VR AMOLEDs prototype, announces design-win for a 1.2" Huawei smartwach

During CES Asia 2016, Everdisplay demonstrated several AMOLED prototypes, including some new ones. For the wearable market, EDO is showing several displays:

  • 1.2" circular
  • 0.95" square
  • 1.41" square
  • 1.4" circular (already in production)

EDO announced that the 1.2" panel will enter production in July 2016 - and the company says that Huawei will launch a smartwatch with this display in September. EDO also reveals that Hauwei's 1.4" round Watch (shipping now for $349 - $799) uses an AMOLED made by EDO, as well.

Futaba expands film-type flexible PMOLED range

Futaba started shipping flexible PMOLED panels, which they call film-type formable OLEDs, back in 2013 - with the first panel on production being a 1.4" 128x16 white PMOLED (which was adopted in Huawei's Talkband and Garmin's Vivosmart fitness trackers).

Now Futaba expanded their and the company currently has 3 flexible OLED products - adding a new 1.8" white 160x32 panel that is now in mass production and a full-color 1.4" 128x16 PMOLED that will enter mass production soon.
