Tom'sGuide: the new samsung QD-OLED displays are the best we've have ever seen

Earlier this week at CES, Samsung Display officially launched its QD-OLED display panels, and the first few products were announced, including the 34" 3440x1440 175Hz Alienware AW3423DW gaming monitor.

It will be very interesting to see how these displays compare to other OLED (and LCD) displays on the market, and we don't have any real reviews yet... but Mark Spoonauer, a writer at respected site Tom's Guide said that the new QD-OLED displays is "the best he has ever seen".

Samsung Display officially launches its QD-OLED panels at CES 2022

We already know that Samsung Display is starting to produce QD-OLED panels, and the first products have already been announced: Sony's A95K QD-OLED TV and Dell's and Samsung's 34" QD-OLED monitors.

It is great to see Samsung Display officially announce its QD-OLED panel lineup at CES 2022. The company is indeed producing three kinds of panels, 55" and 65" 4K panels for TVs and wide 34" panels for monitors. SDC says it will start mass producing the panels "in the first half of 2022".

Samsung and Dell announce 34" QD-OLED gaming monitors

Both Samsung Electronics and Dell have announced new gaming monitors that both use the same 34" curved QD-OLED panel. As we reported last year, SDC started to produce 34-inch QD-OLED panels and it is great to see the first products already launched.

Dell's Alienware AW3423DW gaming monitor sports a curved 34-inch QD-OLED panels that offers a resolution of 3440x1440, 175Hz refresh rate and a response time of 0.1 ms. The AW3423DW supports Nvidia G-Sync and is DisplayHDR 400 True Black certified. Dell says the monitor will ship by March 2022.

Sony launches its 2022 OLED TV range, including the world's first QD-OLED TV, the A95K

Sony announced its 2022 TV lineup, which includes three new OLED TV series, including the A95K, which is the world's first QD-OLED TV ever announced.

The Sony A95K Master XR TV will feature 55" or 65" 4K 120Hz QD-OLED panels (produced by SDC), Sony's XR cognitive processor, Acoustic Surface Audio, XR Triluminos Max and Google TV OS. It features HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision.

Samsung is set to launch QD-OLED TVs, CES awards them with its innovation award

Yesterday we reported that Samsung did not include QD-OLED TVs in its official CES display PR, but now it turns out that the company did bring its QD-OLED TVs at CES - as the event organizers awarded the 65" QD-Display TV with its Best of Innovation' 2022 award.

The CES text reveals that Samsung's TVs will support 144Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 inputs and Samsung's 2022 Neo Quantum Processor. We did not see the actual TV yet, and Samsung did not reveal any launch plans yet.

Samsung will not show OLED TVs at CES 2022, did not reach an agreement with LGD over WOLED panel supply yet

According to reports from Korea, Samsung Electronics will not show any OLED TVs at CES 2022. We hoped that the company will unveil the first QD-OLED TVs during the show, and also perhaps WOLED TVs that use panels produced by LGD.

According to reports from Korea, LG and Samsung did not reach an agreement on WOLED panel prices, even though LGD agreed to offer its WOLED panels to Samsung at a lower cost than it sells these to LG Electronics.

Samsung's first QD-OLED panels to be 65-, 55- and 34-inch in size

Last week we reported that Samsung Electronics plans to reveal its first QD-OLED TVs in early 2022. According to a new report in Korea, Samsung Display's first QD-OLED panels will be 65-, 55- and 34-inch in size. This means that in addition to Samsung's TVs, we are likely to see OLED monitors as well.

This is very good news to the consumers who have been waiting for OLED monitors for so many years. Some OLED monitors are already shipping - but only very high-end ones for professionals, such as LG's $3,999 31.5" UltraFine OLED Pro monitor.

Reports from Korea say that Samsung Electronics plans to reveal its first QD-OLED TV at CES 2022 (5-8, January, 2022). The company hopes the new OLED TV technology (produced by Samsung Display) will enable it to compete with LG in the premium OLED TV market.

This was already reported back in July 2021, when it was said Samsung's first TVs will be 55" and 65" in size, with 70-inch panels arriving later in 2022.

Samsung Electronics reports a record quarter, with strong OLED panel sales

Samsung Electronics reported its financial results for Q3 2021, with record quarterly sales ($63 billion USD) and an increase of 31% in net profits (to $10.5 billion).

The strong performance was mostly thanks to Samsung's chip business and the weak Korean won. Samsung's display business also enjoyed a good quarter, with strong sales of small and medium-sized OLED panels. Samsung's large-area LCD business, though, posted losses as prices of LCD panels declined.
