DSCC sees a decline in smartphone OLED shipments and revenues in 2022

DSCC estimates that OLED smartphone display shipments will decrease 5% in 2022, to 592 million units. Flexible OLED shipments will rise by 2% (and will decline 10% in terms of revenues) but rigid OLED shipments will drop 14% (and revenues will decline 32%).

DSCC sees the OLED smartphone market declining 16% in 2022 to $317 billion (smartphone sales), and explains that this is due to macroeconomic headwinds, weakened consumer demand and problems with supply chains and inventories.

The new association will bring together companies, academia and organizations active in the MicroLED industry and provide an ideal forum for solving common technology issues, fostering cooperation and sharing relevant information, resources and tools. The association will also work to promote its member companies, their technologies and products.

DSCC: the OLED market will grow 2% in 2022, led by strong demand for IT panels

DSCC estimates that the OLED market will increase 2% in 2022, to reach $42 billion. Revenues for smartphones, the leading OLED application, will actually decline by 4%, but this will be offset by increases in other applications.

In fact, some applications will experience very fast growth: OLED monitors (641% unit growth, 279% revenue growth), OLED laptops (64% units, 39% revenue) and automotive displays (73% units, 68% revenue).

Omdia: Chinese OLED makers increase their market share to over 20%

Omdia says that the market share of Korea's OLED producers, SDC and LGD is eroding, as Chinese OLED makers increase their OLED shipments. A main driver is Apple's increased iPhone AMOLED orders from BOE.

Omdia says that BOE's market share has increased from 5.6% in 2019 to almost 12% in 2022 (first quarter). The market share of all AMOLED makers in China is now above 20%, from from less than 10% in 2019.

Omdia sees almost 6 million OLED automotive panels shipped in 2028

Market research firm Omdia sees higher demand for OLED solutions for the automotive sector. Omdia says shipments of OLED panels will grow from around 500,000 units in 2022 to almost 6 million units by 2028.

Currently most automotive makers that use OLEDs adopt flexible panels, but Omdia actually sees the adoption of rigid glass-based OLEDs (single stack) growing faster than that of flexible OLEDs (tandem stack), and by 2027 the share of rigid automotive OLEDs will be higher than that of flexible ones. This is an interesting forecast.

DSCC: OLED material sales to reach almost $3 billion by 2026

DSCC updated its OLED material market data, and it now sees AMOLED stack material revenues growing at a 18% from 2020 ($1.07 billion) to 2026 ($2.9 billion). If UDC actually manages to release a commercial blue PHOLED, the market could even exceed $3 billion.

The majority of OLED material revenues from from TV applications, but the market share of mobile devices is expected to grow and reach almost 50% by 2026.

DSCC sees 2.4 million OLED monitor panels shipping in 2026, up from 600,000 in 2022

DSCC says that it expects the advanced monitor category to grow 328% in 2022, to reach 3.6 million panels. OLED monitor shipments will jump 641%, to reach 600,000 units. The growth in OLED shipments will continue, but even in 2026, OLEDs will still take a small part of the market segmented, which is dominated by mini-LED LCDs.

In 2022, DSCC sees QD-OLED panels to grab a 27% market share, while WOLEDs have a lead with a 52% market share. In total, OLEDs will have a 15% market share of the advanced monitor market.

DSCC sees fast growth ahead for OLED displays in the notebook market, while miniLED LCDs will stagnate

DSCC says that in 2022, MiniLEDs will hold a 49% share in the advanced notebook market, while OLED will hold a 51% share. Looking into the future,MiniLEDs sales will increase slightly, while OLED sales will rise much faster, and by 2026 OLED shipments to the notebook market will reach over 40 million panels, and hold a 75% market share.

Looking at specific vendors, DSCC sees Asus as the leading OLED notebook maker, with a market share of 55%, followed by Lenovo at 17% and both Samsung and HP at 11%. The market ranking will remain pretty constant in 2022 as a whole.

UBI: the OLED emitter material market up 9% to $420 million in Q1 2022

UBI Research says that the OLED emitter material market reached $421 million in Q1 2022, down 21.1% from the previous quarter, but up 9% compared to Q1 2021. UBI estimates that the OLED emitter material market will reach $1.77 billion in 2022, and will grow to $2.4 billion by 2026.

UBI says that sale of materials for TV and mobile devices decreased (compared to Q4 2021) while sales of materials for the production of IT (laptops, tablets and monitors) displays were up $6.6 million.
